Flyers lost the rights to Joacim Eriksson, Adam Morrison, Simon Bertilsson, Nicola Riopel, and Dave Labrecque.

I'm a little confused on Riopel. Did we just now lose his rights? We signed him to an AHL contract on August 25th, 2010. Not sure what the length of the contract was.

You lose the Entry-Level rights when you sign an AHL deal. Riopel's AHL contract is expired.

Flyers essentially lost 3 goaltending prospects.

Expect them to go shopping this offseason.

Gotcha. Much appreciated on the explanation.

I concur. The Flyers appear ready to go hard after goaltending this offseason. Can't say that disappoints me at all.

Flyers currently are down to Bobrovsky, Leighton, Backlund, Hovinen, and the rights to Kovar.

Brian Stewart is a RFA, Boucher is a UFA.

Also a rumor floating around the Backlund could be loaned to Europe.

I'd say Backlund is basically done.

You guys are not missing out on much; he was a pretty big let down this year. Bobrovsky is enough really, but wow you sure have a poor farm system. Worst I've seen in years.

This will be our fourth consecutive year without a 1st or 2nd round pick. We did draft Sbisa in the first round of 2008, but we traded him years ago.

Like I said, I wish the Flyers had gotten Eriksson signed. I think they will end up regretting the decision to release his rights. But that said, I understand why they made the decision. European goalies are really difficult to get a read on, and at Eriksson's age, they HAVE to play to develop properly. That simply wasn't happening and they made a decision to move in another direction. I don't like it, but I understand it.

In the end, it's quite possible that it works out best for both the Flyers and Eriksson. At least, that would be my hope.

He sums it up well with these posts.

#Flyers, please adhere to the following rules: 1. Do not draft a teenage European prospect if he has not yet played at the highest pro level

2. If you do draft a teenage Euro prospect, show some BLOODY patience. Joacim went from SuperElit to Allsvenskan to Elitserien in 3 yrs!!...

If Homer doesnt want to wait a few years for Euro prospects, he should just 100% stick with NA players.

So in a nutshell, the Flyers could have had Eriksson pinned for the AHL for next season, but signed Backlund for 2 years, so Sunshine didn't have a spot.

Completely wrong ... His AHL contract runs until June 30, he is still under contract with the Phantoms ... The Flyers lost his exclusive rights June 1st, with Bertilsson, Eriksson, Labrecque and Morrison, under the same rules.

Within a week's span, the weak get weaker. Calgary moves Erixon, Flyers clean house and leave themselves with few if any strong prospects.

I most definitely agree.

It's not the end of the world, but this organization's handling of anything goalie related is downright frightening.

Which makes you think. Whats on the cards for draft day. Is homer looking to move a high profile player to get draft picks back?

Carle for late 1st round pick and a middling prospect.

By all reports, the Flyers feel that Noivenen has surpassed Eriksson in development, therefore Eriksson isn't our top prospect.

A 20 yr old, coming in and taking over a guy who posted near top of the league barely happens. Eriksson DESTROYED in preseason, and Hadelov started. All the newspapers for Skelleftea thought Eriksson was going to start. I remember talking to Teemo about it. Hadelov had the faith of an organization who he played 4 years prior for.

Apparently to the Flyers it means something.

At least the Flames got better compensation for him than if he even re-entered the draft.

I saw JE play at the prospect camp after he was drafted and he did really well. Most of the decent players there were let go though over time. I'm not happy about this mainly due to poor asset management and not willing to work out issues with your own farm system.

Just continued poor asset management. This is certainly not the first case of it. Even if Erickson didn't have a future with the organization, to let him go for nothing to me shows something is flawed in how things are done in the front office.
