Seems like a good kid and glad he at least got an AHL contract. Here's to working hard a la the Dan Girardi way and maybe making a name for himself as a PP specialist.
good for Max. not sure if he'll make it to AHL or ECHL. since it says CT Whale signs, does that mean he's not on the Rangers roster or 50 contract list?

From my understanding and hopefully Jess at Prospect Park or Leslie Treff (the later of whom is pretty busy and hopefully happy watching all those "shirtless kids" as she calls them at the combine ) can confirm is that he did not earn a Rangers contract but rather an AHL contract so he is the Whale's property and can either play in the AHL or ECHL.
it's very similar to what Girardi and now Parlett went/are going through. If he becomes an offensive machine and is in serious consideration for a Rangers callup, the Rangers would have to sign him to a whole new contract a la Girardi in January 2007.
It's a good thing for Campbell who really worked hard and now has the opportunity to go who knows where with more hard work and determination.
why am i just hearing of this player now? seems like a few guys know him
5th rounder in 2007. Jess from Prospect Park has written a lot of nice things about him. Most likely he's just an AHLer or maybe even an ECHLer, but it's cool how hard he's worked after a bad start to his college career and now has an opportunity to prove himself as a pro. He has some talent and is good on the PP. Maybe he can become a PP and shootout specialist at the AHL level and it's a longshot but maaaaaaybe he can turn into a likeable version of Kotalik at the NHL level.
so CT should have a different look. What's the new prospect list that is likely to play in CT and who would likely go back to juniors?
Thomas, Bourque, Campbell, McIlrath, Parlett, Wilson amongst others
Thomas and McIlrath are either NHL or Juniors.
Wilson was an overage player so it's Whale or Rangers for him.
Campbell, Bourque, Hagelin, and Parlett are done with their junior careers so either Rangers or Whale.
Erixon is an interesting case; they want him to make the team but if he doesn't he probably has the option of either AHL or SEL; they'll figure it out.
Pashnin will probably start in the AHL since his KHL contract is up and he wants to come over.

He actually seemed to be developing on par with Hagelin through his sophomore season, but as a junior, Hagelin took off and Campbell regressed. He had gotten most of his success as a sophomore on the PP and as a junior, the points just didn't come. He had a good year this past year. It's possible that he could earn an NHL contract down the road.

Fitzy mentioned how he doesn't play a lick of defense. That's bad news for a centerman.
Campbell's upside is something like Eric Christensen and it's going to be an uphill battle to get there. The guy has been willing to pay his own money to come to our prospect camps--and I have no doubt that he wants a pro career--just have some doubts he's going to make it.
Plenty of players can put up respectable numbers their senior year in the NCAA that are ECHL-AHL tweeners.
The games I saw Campbell play this year he looked like a floater; ineffective at even strength, always the one man high in the defensive zone (As a pivot) and while he was the main puck handler in the Jagr office on the power play, didn't show me "it" (Either a strong playmaking instinct or a lethal shot) to suggest he'll be an NHL player.
He isn't a bottom 6 guy, and isn't skilled enough to be a top 6. If he is lucky he may have a role as an injury fill-in similar to P.A. Parenteau's role prior to this season.

If you're trying to piece together who's in Hartford next year--Newbury's signed. Tommy Grant (winger) is signed. Jason Missiaen (goalie) is signed. Chad Johnson is not and probably won't be.

Just trying to piece together who are the actual prospects in Hartford next year.
