Yeah it's pretty ridiculous this "flavour of the week" attitude that people have. It's the same with draft prospects.
You're exactly right, nobody was talking about MacLean at all until this week.
A lot of people were talking about Brad McCrimmon the other Wings assistant up until he signed in the KHL. Most people(including myself) were not aware of Maclean leaving his position with Detroit. Basically it all goes with the theory that ''anything that comes from the Detroit organization must be good'' which to an extent is true, just not all the time.
Hitler's body double, you would have thought a friend would have told him that was a bad look. Well actually not quite exactly by any means, but there is a resemblance.
As for detroit assistant coaches, we shall see, their ability to be a head coach in this market has yet to be determined.
I have no idea why anyone wants Muller. He's merely a name with limited coaching experience....
The old goat has already said that a big part of the job will be communicating with the media and the players. IIRC, Muller captained the Devils forever and a day and was a Habs captain too was he not?
Working in Montreal, which has REAL media instead of a bunch of trained seals that will polish your brass for pizza slices and beer and living with that pressure will make this job a joke.
On top of that...HE HAS WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!
Who in this org has won ANYTHING?
Alfredsson has won the Gold medal and is clearly a leader.
Murrays have never won.
St-Mikes lost huge.
The Ottawa Senators org as a whole hasn't won a Cup (yet)
Murray said hiring a winner was important (I couldn't believe it and called the Ottawa Citizen and they confirmed Murray had actually used the word 'winning' in a sentence) so it appears Murray has finally clued it that hey, sports are about winning! Bravo Bryan, it took you 40 years but you can always learn!
Muller is also great with players...
So you have a guy that:
2)Can handle media pressure
3)Is great with fellow players
4)Bilingual, pretty sure
How is this guy NOT perfect?
A winner leading the way for the youth and making them into winners. Dear lord...and Kirk is so poised behind the bench.
It's Kirk Muller people! Kirk Muller!
Don't want Cameron either. If for no other reason than that there is no chance Ottawa's media supports him as a head coach, and that would create a really poisonous environment. Ottawa's media has demonstrated in the past that they can create some very uncomfortable situations for both coaches and players.
Don't care about the rest of them. I voted for KK just because I believe in rewarding results, but to be honest I don't think any of this group is all that good. I wanted Hartley, though obviously that's off the table.
I don't think people knew who Maclean was until a few days ago, so lets not be talking about him like he is "the obvious choice."
Fair enough. I had no idea who he was until a few days ago, but he's got a ring and he's been working for what is currently the best franchise in the NHL.
He's my first pick: its' not like any of us have any idea what goes on in an NHL dressing room...
Aside from who, does anybody have any idea on when?
Is this something that you would do right after the finals are done and before the draft? or something that should be done after the draft? etc...
There are arguments for both....hell...maybe even for announcing it in the second OT of game seven!
I would assume that you would want your head coach established and on the podium with you when you are drafting, but then again what do I know....I've only won 7 Stanley Cups in 7 seasons...on the 360...on easy.
