The upcoming rivalry with the Kings?

Does anyone else here get excited thinking about how good it may be for hockey to have a New York - LA series in a couple of years?

They have a good young team and so do we. They gave a full cup board of prospects and so do we. Good goaltending and good blue line for both, and we both just need a couple of additional scorers.

They have guys like Schenn and Tiffoli to add scoring, and we have Kreider, Thomas, MDZ for additional offense.

I can definitely see an East Coast - West Coast rivalry developing between us and them if both our prospects develop well.

Would be great for hockey to gave the two biggest markets meet a couple of times or more in the Finals. It could happen, too, if only our prospects like Schenn and Kreider reach their potential

How can you really have a rivalry between teams that hardly ever play one another? And in this case it's not even like the Mets and Yankees as we're talking opposite ends of the country.

I love this matchup as well. The two biggest cities on each coast... LA vs NY. Awesomeness.

But I wouldn't really call it a rivalry when the teams only meet once (or twice) per season.

As a fan of both, I would drool at the idea. IF they met in the SCF. But I don't see that happening soon, so I'm just going to enjoy watching both teams develop their awesome prospects and play once a year.
Do the Rangers play in LA in 11-12?

It could be a rivalry like Boston-LA was a rivalry in the NBA in the 1980s. If we meet them in the Finals more than once, it will be a rivalry. Imagine three finals in five years with LA-NY. We will hate them, absolutely hate them.

I don't like the fact that were chanting "Rangers suck" a couple of years ago.

Definitely wouldn't consider it a rivalry, per say, but the parallels between the two teams are definitely there. Two very young teams with very promising futures.

we should worry about getting to the second round before we think about going to the finals three times in five years

Oh snap. I forgot about the game in Europe... So Cali might be out of the question, if it's only one game.

I like the matchup, but I'd hardly call this a rivalry. We play them once a year. We might play them in the winter classic a few years from now but other than that there's no rivalry.

the only way it becomes a rivalry is if they meet in the finals...a bold prediction to make.

Can you have an upcoming rivalry with a team without having an up-and-coming rivalry with them?

Their AHL affiliate play about 10 minutes from my office, I usually go to about a half dozen games a season...actually saw Boyle play against the Devils farm team a few years back.

Projecting one team to the finals is tough enough. Two teams multiple times in this social justice league? A very long shot, indeed!

This is going to be one of those infamous Prucha > Crosby threads isn't it? Three finals appearances? Let's win a round first.

my two favorite teams having lived in both cities (LA from 07-10) but I would hardly call it a rivalry considering they play each other 2 times a year (if that). and to the person above who derided them for chanting "rangers suck" they do that for every visiting team. tickets are easy to come by and cheap in LA so I would often go to Kings games, and their "chant" they have is "visiting team sucks" pretty much. and I would also say the Kings have a significant amount of more talent on their team and farm system than we do.

No real rivalry although the two did play in the playoffs two times in three years (1979 and 1981) for both Rangers long playoff runs in the late 70s/early 80s.

It provided one of the funniest moments in Rangers history with that playoff brawl:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQUwpwkf624

or

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sMhos_Ixpk

I always thought it was cool how the Rangers used to bully people during that era. They should be like this all the time.

I'm a huge Kopitar, Brown, Simmonds, Handzus (although he could be playing for someone else), etc. fan so I enjoy their team. The game with the Rangers this year was epic.

Well with this thinking we should still be rivals of Vancouver no?

I have no reason to hate LA because we never play them unless we let them **** Wolski from us for a bag of pucks.

The Rangers and Kings are my two favorite non-Sharks teams, and it looks like these two will be in full swing when the Sharks are in a lull, so I'll be rooting for them.
