and Handzus can't argue that he's worth more so sign him for the same amount to bring the possibility of playing Dubi and Callahan significantly less minutes to warrant signing them for far less next season after giving them matching 1 year 2.75m deals...they cant say that they're worth more since C.Perry plays the same amount w/ a much shoddier defense and posts double the goals this season w/ exactly the same amount of intangibles and to MVP value to a team as either Dubinsky or Callahan have ever brought.
Gilroy+Hagelin+Fasth+a pair of picks to the Wild for Burns if they get silly then Avery could be added to give the wild clutterbuck and Avery on 1 line.
Stay away from Drury and B.Richards is the same as Drury excellent before coming to NY but a Concussion Case dwindling fast after arriving in NY.
make it a true 4 line team with each playing equal amounts of Evenstrength minutes. With 4 dangerous wingers on the Right Side and a pair of good shooter on the blueline the efforts of blueliners like DelZotto and McDonagh should increase the PP efficiency significantly
Artukhin looked solid @ 260lbs and is faster the Martin St.Louis in straightline speed. His size combined the fellow 6'4" power forwards Gratchev and Anisimov will be tough to defend against.

Basically if you sign before the age of 20 and don't play in the NHL for more than 9 games, the contract "slides" to the following year until the player is 20. CHL players can't play in the AHL until they turn 20, but imports like Grachev/Anisimov can. Thus, grachev's 19 year-old season in Hartford didn't count towards his ELC, nor did Anisimov's. A more extreme example of this is Niklas Bergfors who was drafted in '05 and had his first contract expire last year, playing 3 years in the AHL in the meantime.

I'd love Patrick Sharp, he fills such as huge hole in our lineup. The Hawks can pick any defenseman not named Staal and take our 1st this year along with Kreider for Sharp, if he gets an extension agreed. (I'm assuming they take MDZ in my little scenario)

Not sure if it works cap wise. This would put the rangers as legitimate playoff threats. Best goalie, one elite line, one very good 2nd line, one great 3rd line, great 4th line. Good depth on defense, although unproven. Who knows maybe with this core of players can imitate Vancouver's team of this year minus the diving and more with the hitting.
Worth trying IMO, you can swap Sharp's and Anisimov's places if he struggles.

Sharp would be our best player, he has intangibles, can play ALL forward positions, was close to 34 goals, playoff performer, clutch, he's the whole package.
Del Zotto has dropped in the depth charts considerably, Kreider while a good prospect is no where near Patrick Sharp and a first is in a supposedly weak draft.
Gilroy is better than Vandermeer at this point, and I can't stand the way he plays.
Anisimov is a center -- end of story. His defense is too good to just throw him wherever.
Sharp isn't as good as Gaborik, either -- good player, but he isn't a star player. He's a good complimentary offensive piece, but I'm not dealing the organization's only legitimate puck mover, their top prospect, and their 1st for the guy -- I don't think it's very enticing for Chicago either. They're trying to win now -- they don't need players like Del Zotto or Kreider. They'd be interested in Dubinsky/Callahan/Staal, and I'm not prepared to give up any of those players for Sharp, especially when he's going to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season.
I'm not sold on Jokinen. He had the one 30 goal season two years ago, but that was playing on a line with Staal-Whitney for the majority of the year. Otherwise, he has averaged about 15 goals a year. A lot of players can score 30 goals on a line with Staal/Whitney. Jokinen might be a good signing IN ADDITION to Richards, but otherwise I would stay away. He's another NY flop in the making.
I'm stuck on the belief that we can buyout Wolski which frees up 3.8 in cap space and sign Gagne to a contract near that amount most likely lower. SG is coming off a bad year and missed about 40 games in the past 2 season and only registered 40 points both years. I know what everyone is thinking, "why sign a player who is 31 and injury prone?" Did anyone forget about Gaborik always being hurt. When he's healthy his numbers are great. When Gagne is healthy his numbers are great. I think we could've caught him at a point in his career where we can get him for a steal and give him an oppurtunity to play on the first line with Richards and Gaborik and possibly reach where he was a few seasons ago. My only problem is that unless we make some trades we are not going to have the money because we have to commit a lot of money in "raises" to RFAs. Unless we trade or let one walk (which I or no one else wants we finally have a very bright future). Or we have to make room for prospects ready to join the ranks.
Here is what I think are Slats' like price tags:
Richards - 6.8 (If it was based off the same principal as the Drury/Gomez/Redden/Rosival signing it would be 15.5 for Richards a year )
Gagne - 3.75
I believe that we can sign those to players at those prices and still have wiggle room if we make a trade to free up space. But who to trade is the question (we can't trade Redden unless Milbury takes over some where as a GM or maybe we can screw over Montreal again)

I tried calculating my own cap with estimates but I don't know how it works with non roster players (AHL/Call ups) effecting the cap. Can someone explain how that works in the off season and during the season? Thanks
If Thomas has a good camp, slot him into any of the Hagelin/MZA/Grachev spots. Barring any potential brain farts by Sather, and depending on who performs best in camp, I think our lineup is pretty straight forward.
Anyone that wants NYR to sign Simon Gagné, is out of their mind. If you've been paying attention, you'd notice the amount of games played since the lock-out (72,76,25,79,58,63). Plus, he's never been able to play a full season in all 11 years as a pro.

There's only one issue with thinking Wolski can/will get top line minutes.
Tortorella would never do it. You don't go from benched and 3rd line to first line and 20 minutes ATOI.
Unless Wolski comes into camp in the best shape of his life, highly motivated, showing significant improvements from camp Underhill.
The chances if Wojtek getting top line minutes are slim.
No matter how much sense it makes on paper (it does).
I was just going to post this. Wolski had a great chance to seize the 1st line LW spot last season, and even with our glut of injuries, he couldn't do it.
And even if he played on a line with Richards, I'm not sure if that would help him. Wolski has played with both Sakic and Stastny in the past with limited success. I really don't think Wolski is much of a goal scorer. He's only scored more than 20 goals twice - 22 goals in 06-07 and 23 goals in 09-10. Playing with Richards may not a good fit for him.
Wolski's the only person who can help himself out. He needs to pull it altogether and play with some desire and motivation. Also, his decision-making was poor at times last season... overpassing the puck, hesitating instead of reacting quickly, etc. There's a lot of work to be done if Wolski wants to play on the top line.

I'm not on the other end of the spectrum. Do you understand the talent level of Fasth? We have had trouble developing scoring forwards in our system. Fasth is very young and very talented. There is no reason to deal him. Not even for Burns.
Burns is due to be a UFA after the upcoming season. I don't think Minnesota lets him go. They currently have the cap space to re-sign him but I don't know how that cap space will be affected by this summer. They have guys they need to re-sign and if they let some go they will have to replace them. Maybe they have trouble re-signing him and you can get him at the deadline this year, maybe at a different price tag.
Hagelin has developed his game in college. He was a top notch player with a solid 2-way game. He might make the team right now. So no I'm not ready to deal him. We just got him signed after his season ended. He wants to be here, he could've became a free agent but he did not. I like this kid a lot, he has a solid game, i've seen him play. Don't trade your youth just yet.
