Just wait and see.
It seems to me Richard's agent is making it pretty clear money is going to play a role in this.

If Richards was so sold on taking 5.5-6m to play for Torts or back in TB he would accept a trade to one of them.

Burke can throw 7.5m at him without even really thinking about it.
That is enough to get most teams to fold. It is most likely going to come down to, is Burke as determined as Sather is crazy.

I don't underestimate the crazy of Sather.
He is more then capable of marrying him self to a player for 7.5-8m/yr for 28,437 years.

Yes I think Burke should throw 7.5m to him.
If for nothing else the Leafs instantly become a better team then ... lets say the Habs.

you heard me

You know the habs could throw something like 7.5 millions to Richards also? I don't think he will go to the habs but you never know.

Plus we can still bury Gomez in the minor but we won't do it.

your probably right but detroit has a ton of money to spend and holland wont spend money on dmen solely for the sake of it.

if he cant get the guy(s) he wants for the price he wants he will address that need through other means and spend the money elsewhere

Laich will go for 5.5 m Richards 7.5 Jokinen 5 that's all expensive not all of teams can pay that plus are cup contenders.
I sincerely do hope the habs sign Markov so he can use up their cap space before 1 more injury and retirement.

You will have like 23m in cap space and 10 players signed.

Yeah all you got to do is send Gomez to the minors and try to convince Richards you would not do the same to him when he signs pretty much the same contract ... the contract you just dumped in the minors.

I am sure he would sign right up.

its odd that you have detroit not signing any of the available ufa dmen, unless of course you feel rafalski's retirement announcement was just a big joke

I wouldn't say zero, but the reason everyone is saying that in this thread is because nobody wants to see Richards sign with Toronto other than Leaf fans.

If anyone thinks the Leafs are not a STRONG possibility for Richards signing, to paraphrase the Duck fan-I want some of what you're smoking.

If Richards doesn't come, I would be more along the camp of standing pat, and seeing what can come of the draft. Concentrate on need #2,
a PMD. Connolly and Laich, the latter for the wing maybe, but that it that. Plus I do have faith in Bozak rebounding. He was pretty much
on pace (for goals) last season.

I'd hate to see him gone but i think the red wings will sign Wisniewski or Erhoff at something close to 5.5 millions to the Wiz and 4.5 to Erhoff.

Wisniewsky would fit well with the wings as he has a good point shot wich give a lot of rebounds.

Just my opinion.

Arnott is done in NJ

Elias will end his career as a center and Josefson and Henrique will be our 3/4th line centers respectively.

Also the Devils have zero need to sign left wingers.

If the Devils sign one of the UFA D-men this summer it will be a more mobile type player than Jovocop

The Leafs have money to offer and not a whole lot else given the present non-playoff roster. But they do have money and that counts with UFAs.

Okay, I've managed to be quiet all this time... but seriously, folks. Tim Connolly and Columbus are not a match. We've got three top-6 centers already, four if you count Johansen, and five if the Carter trade happens. We've got absolutely no need for him whatsoever.

(I do appreciate, though, that many folks are remembering that we're in the D market. )

More comes into play as well, not to mention they're not far off from being a playoff team as it is now.

To play along with streit. Then we would have 2 powerplay quarterbacks on our first d-line. They would anchor the PP
