They have some good young players and they might be very aggresive via trades like they have done so far(Boyes-Regehr), wouldn't be surprised if they made another big move

Have a feeling he's going to be asking for way too much, and he's not exactly what we need IMO.

Didn't mean what we need, but a player Buffalo could also be after.

I think this year should be about getting solid character and role players (e.g. Tyler Kennedy) and keeping the cap space for trades or next offseason, where hopefully the free agent market will be stronger.

I don't see anyone deserving of the big bucks in this FA class apart from Richards and Ehrhoff.

Get another depth D
Get someone to replace Halpern (Talbot, Kennedy, Belanger or Upshall)
Try and sign Jagr

Well you asked me if he entices me. He's interesting, that's for sure. If we didn't have AK i'd be all for it, but he's not a first line talent and doesn't fill a need here. I think the perfect pickup for us would be Erik Cole at this point and perhaps Ericsson from detroit. Maybe jan Hejda.

If Andrew Ladd's qualifying offer is one year, he becomes a UFA next year. Better than anyone out there this year for a fair price(until everyone overpays to get him).

Don't lump all your eggs in the Ladd basket quite yet. The FA market looks much deeper next year.

Still not much that could help us. The best players are undoubtly Semin and Hemsky but they aren't at all what we need. Patrick Sharp would be interesting, but its likely the Hawks are going to retain him (they can't just give away their entire team year after year )

EDIT : didn't see Kronwall, Stuart, Umberger. Wouldn't mind Coburn or even Gaustad (great 3rd or 4th line center)

Is it just me, or is anyone else hoping that all UFAs get signed in the first 2 days of free agency? I'd like to see the media end up running stories on junior assistant equipment managers and features on zamboni drivers to try and fill column inches through the summer. Would make a change from bull**** rumours and players dragging out negotiations. Might even learn something interesting too

Agree on Erike Cole. He seems most enticing and fits a need. Bigger body, scores goals and can hit. Obvious question is if he can do it outside Carolina--also, not that'd know, but doesn't strike me as someone wanting to play in Canada. He had his Oiler experience, didn't seem to work out well.

Ville Leino racked up a career year in counting numbers playing soft minutes and super-favorable zone time. Someone is going to overpay him and regret it bitterly.

Agreed. Awesome x-factor in the playoffs, wouldn't want to pay him big bucks for full time top-6 duties.

Possible UFA's I'd consider targeting....Obviously certain guys for certain roles/depth players etc. Alot of these guys will be asking too much money but some names are.

Erik Cole
Jussi Jokinen
Andy Greene
Zenon Konopka
Matt Gilroy
Bobby Butler
Mike Rupp
Sean Bergenheim
Cedrick Desjardins(cheap backup?)
Anthony Stewart
Steve Staios
Mathieu Garon
Brad Richards
Jonathan Ericsson
Scottie Upshall
Joel Ward
Raffi Torres
Tomas Fleishmann
Anton Babchuk
Cory Stillman

Edit - Oops Sorry posted in the wrong thread.

Breaking news: Toronto Maple Leafs have re-signed forward Jay Rosehill to a one-year, one-way, contract extension worth $600,000.

Not really to be honest. For 3M, perhaps. Anything over that is too much imo.

Cole, Jokinen and even Gagne are all above on my chart. Jagr is obviously #1.

Gagné? Really? All we need is for chara to cripple another one of our players, Gagné is already halfway there.

Funniest part is top 6 = 4 winger spots

some wingers currently under contract are Cammalleri, gionta, Pacioretty, Kostitsyn

lol sooo..what are we RLY looking for??

Imo we need a physical presence to play with pleks and cammy. Someone who goes to the net hard and can put in garbage goals. So at this point, Cole. Kostitsyn played very well with Eller and I think they get along outside the ice too. Would love a guy like rupp or even upshall on the bottom 6.

A chance to use cap space to secure a Kostitsyn equivalent or better so that Kostitsyn (who is a decent top-6 winger) can join Eller and rampage against lower lines as a lesser imitation of what Philadelphia did last year with Hartnell-Briere-Leino.

Plus injury insurance for the offense.

Cole-top 6, like it
Stewart and or Torres- bottom 6, with possible upside. Upshall is interesting also.

Yeah, the players the Sabres has brought in are the kind they are supposed to ship out of town.

Trust me, i WANT AK with Eller, they played well together and AK in the top 9 instead of being focussed by the oposition as a top 6 helps him tremendously

but will it happen....?

Me too, would love to sign him to a 10 million dollar contract and send him to Hamilton so no one will claim him.
