stepping into a dude late has got to be eliminated from the league as much as blindside hits. late hits, hits in the back and blindsides are all chicken plays. dont care what Rome said after the fact, he knew what he had their and he took the opportunity to light him up late.
thats a concussion waiting to happen. giving dudes scrambled egg brains and the potential for more during the rest of their career for a 1-2 game suspension is bullcrap. the league isnt protecting anyone.
of course its a case by case basis on how late they actually are - but that was WAY after the puck was gone where Horton had about 2 strides before being hit. you cant use the "speed of the game" crap excuse on this hit which makes Rome's decision excessively stupid. dont tell the Canucks coach, their media boys (TSN/HNIC) or fans that.

Amazing isn't it? The league talks about concussions and injuries and all that stuff and yet each and every time something like this happens there is a debate over it. It gets disected down to the nth degree and excuses are made and around the merry go round goes...
It's up to the league and they have yet to do anything significant to get this type of stuff out of the game. It's almost to the point where you want to tell them that they clearly have the game they want so quit with the phony outrage.
Let me start by saying that the Canucks are my most hated team. That being said, the more I think about it 1 or 2 games seems fine.
Very very late interference which caused a major injury but it was a "north-south" hit and just because Horton was watching his pass does not mean it was a blindside or had any "back pressure". The damage was caused by his head hitting the ice but since that was a result of the blatant interference I feel time served + 1 (maybe 2) seems fair.
Regardless, I wish a smooth recovery for Horton for his career and family's sake.

This isn't trying to create an argument against what you are saying but even the TV guys keep referring to this as not being a blindside or back pressure hit and I don't understand why it even needs to enter the conversation.
Why can't this hit get judged on it's own instead of getting almost excused for being less than it is because it doesn't fall under the league's latest flavour of the month rule?

Can some one explain the relevance to me?
Fair enough argument. I guess I should have clarified I just don't think it should have rule 48applied to it since some people (and media) were suggesting it was a textbook blindside. Judging it as just a really late and dangerous interference my opinion is that 2-3 games (including time served in game 3) is fair.
Definitely. That hit was way late. I cringe every time I watch Horton's head bounce off of the ice. As he served most of a one game suspension already, I'd be fine with him being suspended at least 1 more game.
Wow so 4 games, good to see they are taking this **** seriously. Now we just need consistency
Since the wording isn't remainder of the playoffs and the Canucks end the series in two games, will the other two be transfered to the start of next regular season?
i think 4 games is appropriate. I was seriously angry when I saw the hit, and for almost an hour later. It took me a long time to settle down, but once I did 5 games was the number I settled on. 4 is perfect cause it means he won't be back this year.
This is so bad for Boston. Suspending Rome does nothing to **** over Vancouver, honestly. The damage has been done on Boston.
Oh for sure but you can't suspend Burrows or Kessler. The Bruins have to keep chugging along. Winners face adversity, let's see how the Bruins handle it. They did pretty good handling it last night.

I think it'll be a great momentum boost for the B's honestly. I think they have the heart and character to rally around this loss and turn it into burning desire and hate for Vancouver. Rome may have awoken a sleeping giant.
Torres almost made a worse player later on in the game with a missed macho man flying elbow.
Yeah, clarification has to be made on 'intent'. That could have been nasty. I hope they sit him down and tell him if he has another incident in the finals he can find another line of work for the entire season next year.
Hes been head hunting all throughout the playoffs. Zero tolerance for certain players. His next suspension has to be huge IMO to set the president.

I don't know if Raffi will ever learn. He'll be doing that kinda of thing until he retires or gets kicked out of the league.

Oh they definitely awoke a hibernating bear last night. Now we have to see going forward if this is a grizzly from the mountains or one attending the teddy bears picnic.
