So Dubas gets another dman. Some thing has to give we have nine OHL starters on the blue line now. I like the pick in Yegor Malenkikhbut but wholly obsessed with dman.
I guess more trades to come on the blue line. I hope Dubas doesn't move out Miller he quietly was one of the best dman on the team last year.
David Elsner with our other 1st round import pick. Looks like an agitator with offensive upside. Kind of like this pick if his offensive game can develop in the OHL. Was drafted by Nashville in this years draft.
I like our #7 overall pick in Yegor, young defensemen with lots of talent and size. Our second first round pick was a 2010 NHL pick with Nashville, Elsner... Dubas talked to Nashville in May about him coming over, he is a power forward, who hits like a truck. Ex-Hounds captain Cody Thornton played with him in Germany this year and said he is the hardest hitter he has ever seen... like that pick. Will only be here for one year, but that is fine. We get two quality impact players, and Dubas has done his job once again.
As for our Squad, Braid can be moved to forward or traded/released, Schwindt same, and Volpe was half way out the door already. Our top 6 on D will be Sproul, Nurse, Curcuruto, Miller, Rogalski, Yegor.
The Hounds have gone from having zero NHL drafted players last year, to 7 this year.... could be a nice turn around this year.
This was posted on the Hounds website shortly after they picked him, hopefully it's true and he does come over because he sounds like he could be a good addition for the team.
QUOTE FROM YEGOR ON BEING SELECTED BY THE HOUNDS:
"Very very happy Iím selected by Team Greyhounds from Ontario league- Sounds great!
Time difference in Russia with Canada and i wasn't following events of Import Draft unfortunately.
My hockey dreams this season came true!
Very lucky year at Drafts khl and especially with chl quite surprising but believe it's great job done by people around me.
Now 11-12 season go to the North America to work hard with my new team and hopefully later to get chance with NHL Draft 2012."
Decent return I guess. Fritsch put up 63 pts last year but he also played with some pretty good linemates. Doubtful he comes close to matching Cat's offense but at least Dubas managed to get someone who appears to be able to put the puck in the net.
I had a feeling this wouldn't drag on too long. Dubas knows it would have been a distraction at camp and I'm sure he wanted it to be over as much as Cat did. Plus now Fritsch gets the opportunity to be here at the start of training camp and get to know his team mates before the season starts.
Where did I say "fair return"? I said decent I guess. Considering the situation where everyone knew he wasn't going to report, the return is okay.
I would have rather gotten a centre back in the deal because as of now the 2nd line spot will go to one of Findlay, Sulmonte or Dubchak. Don't know if Dubas can convince one of the American kids like Guertler to report now that there is a top 6 spot open.
Rumours of another deal possibly going down between the two clubs.
According to Yahoo! Sports sources, the two teams are expected to trade import players as well with the Soo sending the rights to Russian Yegor Malenkikh -- a 6-foot-4, 200-pound forward -- to the Attack in exchange for Swedish forward Michael Schumacher, a seventh round pick of the Los Angeles Kings.
Apparently Schumacher's release is being held up by his club in Sweden so I would imagine this deal is contingent on him being able to come over this year.
The Hounds and Kings seem to have a good relationship, with a number of Hounds being drafted/signed in the last few years.
