Makes you wonder. Why is Branch so focused on fighting, when there is nothing to support that Fighting causes more concussions then in non contact leagues.
It's less about players safety, and all about PR.

Thanx for the link and I agree what say about Branch

It's some PR but I think the thought is in the right place. We don't know that taking punches to the head don't lead to future concussions. Take out fighting in the CHL for one year and start documenting head shots etc.. that do cause concussions. The problem is that players don't always tell coaches they have a concussion, there is increased protocol now and being cautious with head shots but for instance Richard Greenop says he never suffered a concussion from a fight but he also said he suffered a few in his OHL career, did he tell the coaching staff? Did he continue to try and play through it. In order to do proper research everybody has to be on board including players and management to document everything properly and start making conclusions.
What would you say if they taking fighting out for one year and head injuries are reduced by 45-50% in that year? Would you say some of that has to do with no fighting or would you say the players are getting the message on head shots?

But, if a league that already bans fighting, head contact and contact at all, but still has a significantly higher rate of concussions then a league like the OHL, then how do we know that fighting, head contact and contact are the issues?

Ask the CCHA, WCHA, ECHA and Hockey East what their numbers are for head injuries and concussions and I am sure we can start making comparisons and conclusions.
Good article for sure..the part about being ready makes sense..the Hit on Crosby an extreme example he never saw it coming.
Banning fighting in our culture could have drastic effects for those of us who grew up as "Macho" Canadians..and smile when we get our teeth knocked out..
Wonder if there is any stats on a sport like Ultimate fighting??
Certainly the growth of that sport would make one believe we like to watch hand to hand combat whether in a ring or a bigger ring on skates..
Might win some new fans to the sport..??? Or make it a new sport
Certainly hate to see anyone get hurt but when you lace up the skates in a league like the CHL you already know what you are signing up for
Anyone who watched 60 minutes and those young guys who climb those cliffs with no safety equipment...wow you can't regulate adrenalin junkies.
I definitely don't want to see fighting completely banished out of the league but I also wouldn't mind if they instituted harsher penalties for doing it either.
They already have an automatic ejection for fighting in the preseason, why not extend that into the regular season? Add in some sort of suspension for having x number of fights? Accumulate 5 fights you get an automatic 2 games? 10 fights you sit for 5.
It's also time to get rid of the Mathers, Bilcke and Thibodeau's of the league. Guys that have limited hockey skills, that spend most of their energy looking for fights in the small number of shifts they see. I enjoy fights more when it's guys that can actually play the game, not these "goons".
Last nights game was a perfect example of an entertaining, fast paced physical game played by both sides. And until Dundas decided he was going to jump Alderson in the late stages was fight free.

I think the whole "macho" thing is people missing the point that hockey at this level is a physical competition with physical contact. With those two elements, physical intimidation comes into play. It's not an intellectual exercise on the ice.
How has Nick's game been? Down here in South Jersey,I can only go by the stat sheets from games. It looks as if he is playing very well. Does anyone think he can jump into the NHL next year? Or do you think he will need more time to grow and mature. I am just glad the Flyers picked him.

Cousins has been tearing up the league recently..near the top of the league in scoring ..playing with more discipline..but certainly agitates the oppostion still..Even had a scrap this year. I certainly hope that he comes back to junior next year (Think he will) but he looks like a good pick for the Flyer's.
Been killing penalties quite well also.

Cousins has been unreal lately.. playing at close to or over 2 points per game. Imagine what he could do with some quality line mates.. he currently has Broll (4 goals) and Fritsch (10?, real good player, but injured all year). He still chirps, dives, agitates, but seems to have found the perfect balance. He would easily be top 3 in the league in scoring had he been non-suspended, and had linemates all year. NHL ready? No, he is still not strong enough, and needs some work. He has had quite a few moments this year where I thought if he were to get hit, he may be dead... makes some high risk plays with his body.....
As for the Hounds, we are in though.. Kingston and Guelph tonight, hope we get another favor from the Eastern cellar... gotta win tonight, and hope Guelph can continue to go down hill. After that, need 2 big wins over Windsor these last 7 games.... possible, but when the box office is no longer allowing you to pick up playoff tickets... what does that say?
Entertaining and intense hockey game tonight..just like the playoffs we may or may not get to view this season...
Windsor next...2 more with them ..if we don't beat them we obviously don't deserve to be in the post season..
Think we have to be almost perfect for the rest of the year..it is possible the way the boys have been playing...no predicitions anything is possible
In any case it has been an interesting year in Houndland...
Broll has really taken off lately ..someone lit a fire under him making plays, fighting ..
Cousins and Sproul are toss ups for most valuable ...
Just hope it goes to the wire...nothing worse then going to a hockey game that means dick...
2 fights..Brool and Mathers..i would say a draw..Dubchak with some big defenceman scored a victory in more ways then one..

1. Schumacker needs to throw that body around and get some gumtion! Put Elsner in in his place or he won't be back next year.
2. The young guys are being sat and won't be ready for next year.
3. Does any of our forwards besides a couple of the new kids know how to cover a D when they are jumping into the play?
Basic A travel hockey....

Reason: unsubstantiated rumor

Scrap! What pillow was that with? He wants every other guy on the team to protect his wining butt!

Actually that should read "winning" He is obviously not a fighter..but certainly the most valuable forward on the team and a toss up between him and Sproul as most valuable Greyhound
They now have their fate in their own hands..with thank you's to Saginaw who gave Windsor a real spanking today......
Wonder if Campbell will be pumped for Thursday.........
Well the next 2 weeks could be our playoffs so enjoy them folks..Doesn't get any better then Windsor Thursday...For a change we get to play them with a full roster and they are missing some key ingredients...
Their coach is very funny with his comments about Saginaw kicking their butts...he either has a short memory or doesn't understand Karma. Wonder if Denny Lambert called his buddy to remind him..
Campbell's experience in big games hopefully helps us.
In any event it has been an eventfull year ..Junior hockey is always fun..
Next year maybe a different landscape....looks like they will be trying to take the staged fights out of the league if possible..(I can live with that)
Don't think it would be a good idea to go with a game misconduct for a fight ...that could cause a lot of turtles to be hatched.
Well too much brown nose & sycophants on another teams site so i will post here...
Should be a fun game..with the proper level of intensity the HOunds have a good chance to pull out a victory..
Guelph in London...things could get real tight after tonight..but i would think if Hounds lose and Guelph and Windsor win ..it will take a minor miracle for us to make the playoffs.
To all my friends from Windsor i wish you luck tonight.(I know i don't have any)

Pretty even game until the 3rd where the spits outplayed the Hounds the post and a crossbar saved the Hounds from defeat should never have gone to OT
Hounds caught the breaks tonite
Defence played well and Im sure they were happy not to face Khoklachev
Should be intersting now
Thanx for the game story...we certainly need a break ..guess Campbell was 1st star...
Seems the Hounds may have tried to protect a 1 goal lead a bit to hard ...didn't see the game though it was televised in the city..(Where i live my neighbors are wolves, moose and bear..and the occasional bobcat)
Must have been nice for Campbell to get the win...i imagine he got a good reception (He is a class act)
I will be satisfied if the game againest Windsor (Next Sat.) is as big as this one was.
(Win or lose)
On a different note they have been filling the Essar centre for the Recreational hockey tournament..
say what you want about the Soo..but boy they love their hockey there.
