The only downside is that if Bryz is signed (I am guessing $5-5.5mil), Boosh is gone.

If I were philly, I would keep my defense in-tact (Timmo, Pronger, Mesz, Carle, Coburn, Bartulis) and run with Bryz and Bob in goal. Defense wins championships (look at Nucks and Bruins).

With that though, you'd have to thin out your offense, trade/demote ~4 million away, plus not resigning Leino or Zherdev. Keep your top 6 (Richards, Carter, Briere, JVR, Hartnell and Giroux) and fill in the blank with low-caphit players.

But that's just me.

Coburn and carle are UFAs after next season, they might not even sign with the flyers. Defense wins championship, but offense and goaltending gets you to the playoffs, and at the trade deadline if you want you can always add some more players for defensive depth.

If that's the online downside, I wish we'd sign two Bryzgalov's.

He didn't offer 6M to Pronger so that won't happen in case of Bryzgalov imho. Homer might offer him 6-8 years but that's another story...

I think it'll be $5.5mil/3 yrs. Enough for Brahbrovski to blossom.

I'm pretty sure he is looking for longer term, 4-5 years.

That would be the perfect situation. Which means it's not going to play out that way.

My guess - 6 to 8 years 5 million per year. Bryz is looking at this deal to get rich, if we can't give him that with a short term deal it will be long term front loaded.

Year 1: 10 million
Year 2: 8 million
Year 3: 5 million
Year 4: 4 million
Year 5: 2 million
Year 6: 1 million

I'm loving the fact we are a step closer to actually having a recognised number 1 goalie. And unlike with Beezer it is the goalie who is generally considered the best available. I hope we can get him signed. Hopefully at around 4 year $22m.

My concerns though are; What about Bob? Bryz will want years with his contract, will Bob want to hang around if he feels he is ready to take over?

And mainly, Why does Homer insist on blinking first (Z's signing last year and now this trade)? Now there are 29 teams that know we need capspace. If the Voracek & 1st deal was offered for Carter, why not take it if you were planning to do this? Howson would be stupid to offer that up now. Whoever ends up moving now will likely go for less than he's worth just like Gagne.

My prediction:

6 years 30 million. Homer is going to get desperate and give him years.

Carle and/or Hartnell will be the one(s) to go. (Carle being the most likely.)

He is looking to be the highest paid goaltender but he may take a pay cut to play for you guys due to their potential to win a cup.

I don't get why people are so anxious to move a forward. Leino's probably already gone, and so is Zherdev, so that's like 1.3 spots open. Then we've got a ****ton allocated on D and a nice, new Gustafsson who would more admirably fill in than most of the forward turds we could have.

...he doesn't deserve to be the highest paid goaltender, and no one is going to pay him that. So, if that is what he's looking for, the KHL is in his future.

I don't think its impossible for you guys to sign Bryzgalov without giving up a ton of key pieces.

If you don't re-sign Zherdev($2 mill) and O'donnell($1 mill) and then trade Versteeg($3 mill) for picks, you save $6 million and get to around $58 million for the cap hit. If the cap goes up to let's say $62.5 million, then you will be left with $4.5 million in cap space.

If Bryzgalov is willing to consider a long-term deal at around $4 million per year, you might be able to sneak under the cap still. If he wants a lot more than that, I think you should just let him go and sign someone like Vokoun for less. With Bryzgalov's ugly numbers for the past 2 playoffs, he does not deserve more than what he is making now really.

*Heard it on TSN Radio and would love to get confirmaiton* As this is the last year for the current CBA, all bonuses will count towards the cap, so I think with that reason alone, that'll put you guys over.

Truth, but bonuses are already accounted for there. Bob's base is 900K or whatever, not 1.7. Same with JVR.
