Holy ****, this guy says he wouldn't give Bryz $4 mill, let alone $6. The interviewer keeps harping on the playoffs and Winter keeps saying it's not just about the playoffs. I have to say, Winter is making him look like an ass.
BroadStBull #Flyers brass will meet with Bryzgalov and his agent on Thurs., Homer confirms. Mtg could shape team's future.

The Flyers, sources said, are open to trading “anyone,” but they would prefer to keep their offensive core together. Translation: They want to keep Jeff Carter unless they are overwhelmed by an offer. (So far, that hasn’t happened.)

Yeah, those sources again. I hope Paul Holmgren has the attitude that anyone can get traded. Every GM should have that attitude. There's not a single hockey player out there who couldn't be overshadowed by a knock-your-socks-off deal. But the leap from "anyone can be traded" to "we are actively shopping X" is enormous. And that's what Carchidi seems to be getting at at the end of that quote.

Meh...he's just building up suspense nothing new. The draft should be fun nonetheless...
Remember when Rich Winter was Hextall's agent back in the day... that was not the best situation. Is this guy a piece of work or what? Jay Snider sure didn't like him. But I guess that was 20 years ago. Must be more reasonable now...
Not a big fan of Winter, but I was cheering for him during that interview.
If I had any motivation I would write a letter to this radio show asking for whoever this guy is to be removed for not knowing what the hell he's talking about. It blows my mind if he really believes the nonsense he spewed. I was embarrassed for him just listening to him bug Winter.

I listened to most of the hour posted on there to find out where the Winter part started. I almost immediately thought, "Wait a minute, Howard Eskin has a brother?"
I think if they get it done, it'll be something like 5y/28m, breaking down to 6/7/6/5/4. It's a manageable deal both ways, gets Bryz a big chunk up front, keeps the hit at 5.6, seems about right.

Will the lower amounts keep him motivated the last 2 years? That's what concerns me.

I'm not as concerned in a scenario like that, maybe naively so. I'd like to think that any player in the NHL wouldn't think, "Now that my annual salary is tailing off in this deal, I'll start mailing it in a bit more." Secondly, in my master plan, Bob would be competing for the #1 slot at or before the fourth year of any deal with Bryzgalov anyway.
I'm happy they posted it online. Now everyone can see how stupid Bruce Jacobs is.
LOL. That was something like the sixth day of his new sports talk show. He's gone back and forth from sports and hard core conservative politics radio and has upset quite a few people, but that's his thing.
I do think he had a fair point about paying someone based more on his performance three years ago than the most recent years, though. Bryz was great in the regular season the past two years, but his performance in the playoffs this year was just totally deflating, so the sense of loss here (in Phoenix) isn't what it would have been had he performed as well in the playoffs as he did in the regular season.
Off topic somewhat, but isn't "Ritch Winter" among the most appropriate names for a hockey agent? He should be the villain in one of those grade-C holiday specials "The [ANIMAL / ETHNIC GROUP / FAIRYTALE CREATURE] who saved Christmas".

Winter also had a point that it wasn't Bryzgalov's fault. Phoenix was completely outclassed.
Goaltending is still a product of the team. When you play a good team and you're goaltending for a crappy team, your numbers are going to reflect that.

Lol, ethnic group? Like the classic: "The Asian Who Saved Christmas"

This is true to an extent..but it's a one-sided fallacy as Meltzer has pointed out. In the Flyers case this year in particular in the playoffs the team play was a product of the goaltending. It works both ways. They were deflated time and time again by our goaltending which wasn't making the situational saves as Meltzer refers to them to fuel the team to play more confidently...especially in an attack offensive system that Lavy employs.
However, I know for some people it's better to cover up this fact like Holmgren did by throwing the defense alone under the bus after the collapse against Boston. The D was no doubt horrid for the most part but their last line of defense wasn't exactly inspiring confidence either....
