Shane McMahon sits on the board of ISM which represents Rory.

Mystery solved.

I copied that off of Twitter without checking first. Shane McMahon sits on the Board of Directors for ISM. That's why he was there.

I'll edit my other post.

Quote:
International Sports Management (ISM), the Cheshire-based agency run by Andrew 'Chubby' Chandler, has secured a multi-million pound investment boost in a bid to develop new events and grow in the United States.

ISM has attracted funding from Leonard Ryan and Mickey O'Rourke, founders of the broadcaster Setanta, their business partner Mark O'Meara and Shane McMahon, son of World Wrestling Entertainment chairman Vincent McMahon.

Just got into watching golf last year, is the US Open traditionally always Father's Day weekend? I like that idea if so.

World Golf Rankings are a complete joke. They should blow up that system. Almost as bad as the BCS. No way Rory shouldn't be #1.
No question Rory should be #1. No one even comes close to his level.

While I do feel the world rankings are somewhat flawed, Rory shouldn't be #1 just yet. Needs another victory or great finish to get to #1, maybe by the time the British is over. I don't really like to see the #1 ranking bounced around so hopefully we see someone grasp a hold of it for a while.

You're going to lose that $100. Maybe not for a couple of years, so hopefully he'll forget it.

Not a good bet, he should/could have the last 2 masters when his game was no where near 100% and his health not 100%. he still has atleast 2 more green jackets in him IMO.

Agreed. The Masters is a tournament that favours experience more than anything else, and it's not uncommon for guys to win it near the end of their careers - not that Woods is near the end, but he could win a couple in his late 40's. I also see him being a legit threat at the US Open and the PGA for at least 10 more years.

I can't wait to see Tiger and Rory have some good battles over the next few years.

All the old timers that hang around in the British Open, I could see Tiger being in contention there into his 50's.

Rory McIlroy disregards Masters training to help in Haiti.

That's boss.

Ya, that's possible too. I left the British Open out just because he hasn't been great there since his back-to-back wins.

Tiger hasn't been the same at the British since he stopped hitting the "stinger".

Just read that the ratings for Sunday were down 26% (5.1 rating) from last year's final round.

There is no question that Rory is a great talent and may prove to be one of the greats (I'll wait to pass judgment on that until he has more major championships that John Daly), but, simply put, he just isn't even close to being the draw that Tiger is.

Say what you will about it being a runaway being the reason why ratings might be down but when Tiger dominated Pebble in 2000 and won by 15 shots, the tv rating was 8.8 (the 2nd highest rating US Open behind Tiger's win at Bethpage), so clearly people will watch a blowout if the right person is the one who is dominating.

The PGA Tour desperately needs Tiger to not just return to the game, but return at a high level. I still believe that even at 75% Tiger is better than anyone out there.

While Rory will never match Tiger's ratings, I think he needs some more time to establish himself as a star. The golf community are desperate to anoint a new superstar, but fans need more than one big win to be convinced. It would be interesting to see what the ratings were like when Tiger dominated The Masters for his first major win.

For sure. When Tiger's head is in the game he will almost always finish top-5, even when he isn't 100%. At the moment, it appears he is only interested in playing 4 tournaments a year.

The lack of stinger combined with his short game and putting not being where it use to be is really hurting him. Even though he is using a new swing, he probably wins 2-3 majors over the last two years if his putting skills didn't completely disappear. He should focus on his short game while he's taking a break from full-swing practice.

The weekend ratings for the 1997 Masters was 15.8!

Yes, the golf community is deperate to annoint a new superstar. The problem is that there just isn't one that can dominate like Tiger can over the course of a season. The Tour is so ready to annoint Rory, Westwood, Kaymer, Bubba, Dustin, Ishikawa as the next great superstar, but they just don't have what Tiger has because he's a once a generation player like Jack was.

There's no question that all Tiger cares about is Jack's record.

Agreed about his short game and putting. It's hard to believe how much his touch around greens has gotten worse. As you said, putting the swing aside, Tiger desperately needs to get his touch around the greens back if he is going to catch Jack.

Its stupid for anyone to be comparing Tiger and Mcilroy right now. Tigers missed 6 cuts in all his career and Rory has already missed 14 as a professional.

Of course it's stupid, but golf is dying for the next person to save the sport while Tiger is on the sidelines. Anytime someone with a great swing who dominates a major, the comparisons are going to come out.
