Matt Carle (PHI) to NYI

What would it take to get Matt Carle to NYI?

Katic + 3rd (the one we don't give to ANA for Wisniewski)?

Philly needs salary cap relief, so they will have to sell at undervalue.

It's not great I'll admit, but it's better than nothing. Katic looked decent in his few games with this season, he can certainly be a bottom pairing guy. A 3rd is a 3rd, not much more to say about that. It would probably be either #62 or #64 (if that helps).

The most important thing it gives the Flyers is cap relief.

I'd rather see the Flyers waive him then get a return like that. It does nothing for us.

If they're going to give away a decent player like Carle, they'll give him away to someone other than a divisional rival, mark my words.

If the Flyers trade Carle I'm sure they can get a better return than that.

We didn't sign Bryzgalov yet. We didn't sign Leino yet. Shelley, Leighton, Walker can all be sent down. You don't have the leverage you think you do to get a #2 PMD for a song. Make a serious offer and I would gladly accept.

No you wouldn't. What would you want from the Islanders for him?

so...waive him and get nothing as opposed to getting a good, speedy dman and a 3rd rounder.

clearly the better choice is to waive him.

no, thats too much. i wouldnt mind doing the 50th this year, and a third next year but not in the same year. katic would be a good piece to trade, i dont know why he is considered garbage...

Because the Flyers can't use him.

Matt Carle had something like 40 even strength assists this year. He is a legitimate puck moving D. Not a premier defender, but decent.... a considerable asset, particularly if your team needs his skill set.

If I were Holmgren I would insist on this 2nd, next year's 3rd. You can add a minor piece on Philly's side if it makes you like the deal more, but that's what I would have as my bottom line were I GM.

isles didnt use him this year either, he is a prospect. he could use another year in the ahl, then he'd be looking at nhl duties.

if im garth id probably offer the 63rd, mark katic, and a 3rd next year. if he needs to add more, go 50th this year and then bump the third next year to a 4th.

Well, you're going to have to take someone's pile of crap. With your cap situation you're not going to get much more than a 3rd and a mid tier prospect. The Flyers won't be in the drivers seat on this one.

If the Rangers could find a way to fit both Carle and Richards in cap wise (if they even sign Richards; otherwise, sign me up for sure), I'd be extremely interested in Matt. The Rangers have plenty of defensive defenseman, and need a player that can move the puck through the neutral zone desperately, as well as a guy that can produce on the powerplay.

I don't really know what the Flyers would want, though. Maybe an NHL ready prospect on an ELC? Makes sense, as they need fillers while they work with the cap. Maybe a Grachev would be of interest? He could fill in a 3rd/4th line role and is easy on the cap.

Not how it works. Matt Carle had 39 assists last season. There are probably at least 3 teams who would be willing to trade for that. If there is more than one team interested, they don't need to take a pile of crap from anyone.

Does not help the Islanders, whatsoever. It's robbing Peter to pay Paul. Isles gotta add to their team.

yep, the only thing the islanders have to trade are expendable prospects, picks, and nabokov. and those prospects that are expendable can have great value btw, brock nelson could be viewed as expendable with nielsen and cizikas rise in value. that doesnt mean they want to trade or that hes available, just expendable.

I also heard Jeff Carter, Chris Pronger and Mike Richards will be given away to other teams via lottery.
Since they aren't in the driver seat.

Does he get those 39 assists playing with the Islanders or Nashville or Florida? Probably not.

Apples and oranges. You're comparing 3 players that have a good shot at the HOF with a solid D man. And if they do decide to trade on of those three, they still won't get full value because they have to make a trade.

So if there are - for the sake of argument - 5-6 teams interested, that has nothing to do with leverage?

I don't care if the a team hires a skywriter to announce that they will be trading Player X, if there are multiple teams interested in Player X, they should get market value for him. Leverage occurs with players with NTC/NMC or terrible contracts; Carle is neither.
