2011-2012 starting lineup

So looking at the past season who do you guys think will be in the starting line up? So far Im just going to put the players signed.

Borque Backlund Iginla
Glecross Jokinen Hagman
Jackman Stajan Moss
x Langkow x

Bouwmeester Regher
Giordano Sarich
x x

Kipprusoff
x

Not putting those guys in the roles but just a guess until some more free agents are signed.

I can see Langkow centring the top line next season. He missed 90% of the season and came back and looked like he hadn't missed a step.

I also think that Hagman either gets bought out, put on waivers again, or traded. That will allow Nemisz to play the season with the club or have a low end signing.

Its also important that Tanguay gets locked down for atleast another 2 years.

Tanguay - Langkow - Iginla
Glencross - Backlund - Bourque
Nemisz - Jokinen - Moss
Kostopoulos - Stajan - Jackman

Jay Bo - Regehr
Giordano - Sarich
Pardy - Carson

Thats cuz his step was already missing.

Backlund, Tangs and Iggy have good chemistry so keep it that way for more than 10 mins.

He looked like one of the best offensive players on the ice. So then what does that say about the rest of the team??

Langkow looked like a poor man's 4th line centre when he came back, I have no idea what games you were watching. Hopefully he can regain his strength and game for next season.

But if Backlund does not get some quality time with Tanguay and Iginla at the start of next season to prove his worth then I have no faith in Sutter anymore.

edit: Granted the lineup does not change.

After missing so much time, no I don't think he was that far out of the loop.

He had such poise with the puck and his hockey sense in the offensive zone was very impressive.

Obviously he's not going to have the foot speed or agility that you need, but that's implied coming off injury and joining play 80 games too late.

Hey,

he did an amazing thing last year and I really think the world of him for that accomplishment. But he still has a long road to regain where he was pre-injury, if he can do it then our team will be better for it going into next season. But after watching Backlund over the last 10-15 of the season he has earned every right to play with our top line next year.

Langkow was over the hill as a 1st liner two years ago. Considering how much time he missed, if he turns out to be a decent 3rd liner next year I'll be quite happy.

I expect Langkow will be a "slight" downgrade from Jokinen next year. I also expect Langkow to get spot duty on the top line with Tangs and Iggy when Backlund struggles the odd time. Even though Langkow is older and not the player he once was, I don't think he will hurt us and will be able to fill in time from time similar to how Morrison did last year.

Agreed. I can imagine Langkow being the player that will do whatever it takes to get the puck to either Tanguay, Iginla or simply smash it into the net himself. Ideally "centering" Backlund and Iggy on the 1st PP with Tanguay/Gio on the point.

good for you...last season he played well on the top line and I don't see Backlund being a number 1C and I also don't see Lanks being a 1C either......so IMO i think its a good possibility to snag him again

We already have 4 centers with the return of Langkow. Why don't you think Backlund would be our number 1 center? He looked great for the last 15 or so games he was on the top line and was great in the WC. I doubt it will be Langkow unless he can gain some speed and work on his strength plus he isn't very good at face offs.

At the same time though, can you say any of our centers are?
I only hope that whoever it is (fingers crossed for Backlund), that they'll be able to stay and develop some consistent chemistry with Iginla/Tanguay. I could easily see it being another season of revolving centers.

Sadly no, the person best at face offs on our team is probably Iggy.

Backlund has already developed some chemistry with Iggy and Tanguay and didn't look out of place. If he can gain some strength and become better at face offs I can see him being our number one center for next season. My guess is that Backlund will be on the first, Jokinen on the second, Langkow on third and Stajan on fourth.

I'm kind of surprised at the number of posters here who want Backlund on the first line. Don't get me wrong, I do as well, and I'd love to see him get a shot to prove himself alongside Iggy and Tangs, but I somehow get the feeling that Mikael isn't going to be playing on the top-line come next season...

If BMo comes back I would much rather have him on the top line then Backlund. I just do not see him coming back, and who knows what is going on with that season ending injury he had.

If he's going to be that top line center for us (or at least a good 2a), he'll need to prove that he can make it up there. Then again, there are too many question marks with Langkow at the moment and Stajan? It would take a miracle for him to live up to his contract before we start expecting anymore.

Assuming that BMo comes back, what do you think are the chances of the Flames giving him a tryout to see whether he can stick? Our logjam of forwards aside, he's the one player who that any team could use.

If we can clear the cap space (somehow) and BMo is 100% healthy I want him signed regardless of our forward depth. The guy was great in every position we put him in last year. Too boot, he was great with Tangauy and Iginla, far better then anyone else. If we can sign him to a one year deal for about 1 million then that is a steal IMO. We have a guy who can play anywhere on our depth chart (wing or centre) and looks good on the 1st line. For the money he will command that is as good as it gets (unless you have a bluechip on an ELC...sigh...)

I think our 4th line is more expensive than most team's 2nd lines o.O

As good as he was I think we need to move on, I would rather hit the FA market and get a 4th line centerman, someone like Konopka. He is great in the faceoff circle and a suits that physical 4th line player mold.
