A fun way to track Lowe's summer success

Just as a fun way to track Lowe's moves from the end of the season, to the start of the next one, I am going to track all the players coming in and out of the organization, and rate it as one massive trade; then of course, rate him on it (yes, indeed I am bored at work).

The final grade at the end will be determined as follows:
- Retirements: 0
- Draft: 0 (reason explained later)
- very minor deal: +/- 1
- minor deal: +/- 2
- Prospect making club: + 2
- deal involving quality assets (ie: Moreau, backup goalie): +/- 5
- deal involving 2nd tier assets (ie: 2nd line or 2nd pairing): +/- 7
- deal involving top tier assets (ie: 1st line or 1st pairing, starting goalie): +/- 10

Players/assets entering the organization:
Draft:
14 G Devan Dubnyk
25 C Rob Schremp
44 D Roman Tesliuk
57 L Geoff Paukovich
112 L Liam Reddox
146 D Bryan Young
177 D Max Gordichuk
208 R Stephane Goulet
242 C Tyler Spurgeon
274 G Bjorn Bjurling

Free Agents:
None, yet

Trades:None, yet. (Keeping in mind that the Chimera trade is accounted for in the draft section.)
Players/assets leaving the organization:
Draft:
14, 25, 44, 57, 112, 146, 177, 208, 242, 274

Free Agents:
Ferguson, Nedved.

Retirement:
Oates.

Trades:Chimera.
Analysis:
- Giving the benefit of the doubt to Lowe and the draft team, the asset movement in and out of the organization on draft day will not factor in the grade. (0)

- The Chimera trade, at least in my opinion, was a good trade, so Lowe and Co. earn marks for this one. (+2)

- Losing Ferguson is addition by subtraction (leaving room for a youngster - Woywitka perhaps - to be the injury call up). Lowe gains marks for this one. (+1)

- Losing Nedved (at least for now), while arguably, had to happen ($4.5 million option is a big price to pay), still creates a huge gaping hole on the 1st line. Until a replacement is found or Nedved is re-signed, Lowe loses here. (-10)

Final Grade: Given my analysis, the Oilers are 93% of the team they were when they finished their season.

Way too early to mark this. Wait and see where Nedved goes first.

You quoted what you are arguing:
"Until a replacement is found or Nedved is re-signed, Lowe loses here. (-10)".

I can't explain that any clearer. Until we have ourselves a first line centre (which we do NOT right now), Lowe loses marks. When/if he signs Nedved (or a suitable replacement), he will earn those points back.

not just earn those points back, but gain more points too, cause if K-Lowe can sign Nedved to a 3 year deal at a reasonable contract (3 - 3.5/year). if we can get Nedved signed or a find a suitable replacement (No Oates or Dopita-esque type players) then we will be a MUCH better team then last season.

True, and that reminds me (thank you), Oates retired at the end of the year.

I'll give Lowe and Co. a high five ... and likely a few extra points.
