Not 100% sold on Calvert, though I like him a lot. Looked to me like once the league took notice, he was fairly easily shut down. Great start, awesome and contagious energy, but not ready to put him top 6 every night.

IIRC, he was a C. I think he would be just fine as RW or LW. That isn't why I wouldn't do it. I want him playing and developing as a C.

He did do well...but thats more because he is a very good player and was above most of that competition. He is a center and we shouldnt try and play around with that. Trained as a center, built like one, and looks like one.

Who would everyone rather have, all things being equal - Carter or Richards?

Richards just costs cash, while Carter would likely take Voracek and the 8th. Richards is a more proven playoff performer than Carter, but is older and has had concussion issues. The cap hit would be much nicer for Carter and he is likely on the upswing while Richards is closer to the end of his career. However, all things being equal, I probably take Richards at 5 years 37.5 million.

Of course, all things are not equal. The trade for Carter likely has to go down at the draft so that Philly could grab the 8th pick, while negotiations with Richards can't start until July 1. So, if Carter is on the table, I'm all for Howson pulling the trigger unless he is 100% convinced that Richards will sign with the CBJ (and one would think that it should be impossible that he is 100% sure).
Carter over Richards based on age. Carter gives you a longer window, which this team needs.

The pessimist in me says we'll get a player or two that we'll end up wondering why they looked so much better on their other team then ours. Maybe like Carle.

I'd like to put Brass in place of Jake in those Carter deals that are floating around.

Admittedly, Jake's my favorite, but I still think he's gonna explode. I'd prefer to keep him. Still.

I believe Philly would prefer a winger rather than a center. Also, with their cap situation, I think they're banking on getting Jake signed for less than Brassard's contract.

I agree. But adjustment to the NHL can tempered a little easier on the wing. He could come in a just blow everyone away at center, don't know. That's what camp and the nine game window is for. If he ready he will play, at whatever slot is best for him.

I'm all for it. Any chance they'd want to trade for Bobrovski as well? I know there's probably not a realistic chance of that happening but it seems like the goaltender stable is going to be a bit full after Bryzy shows up. And they can't send him down to the Phantoms anymore without clearing waivers.

Capn, you are a treasure.

That said, EDM has nobody I want as badly as I'd want Carter. I wonder if EDM was thrown in there because of the "familiarity" between the two organizations and EDM coming out and stated they would like to acquire more first rounders.

Stuff this good doesn't happen to the CBJ. I highly doubt this deal happens.

That said if Howson denies the rumor I will change my stance. Because every time Howwy publicly denies the rumor the deal goes down like a day later. I think he gets off lying to Porty.

I really don't see anything of real impact happening this summer. Howson doesn't have the stones or the trading chips to make a real improvement.

We won't sign any high profile UFAs and the defense basically needs completely overhauled. The only one I would consider keeping is Methot.

if the 8th gets traded for anything short of NHL Ready talent(meaning a player who has played a few years and near their potential) It was a waste of a trade.

This is funny because (with the misspell) you wonder if that's Arniel's position.

That said, I'll admit I'm wary of trading Jake.

I am not happy to trade Kubo and if so for a great d-man. But Carter is a player who could help us so I agree with this trade /8th+Voráček for Carter/.

I wonder where Brass will be traded. Maybe we could trade him for first round pick to Buffalo or d-man. IMo Brassard is better as a center than a wing. I would prefer wings on this post not him.
