This deal is similar to Colin Greening's, which I scratched my head at. How 30 games of good play gets you a one way contract and three years is beyong me.

Because the Leafs are willing to take a risk on term in return for a bargain cap hit? It's pretty basic stuff and cap management 101. I'd think that any fan who has been paying attention in a post-lockout NHL would understand this concept.

Besides the fact he's a Leaf, that's one of the major reasons I want to see him succeed. He seems to really appreciate and respect the opportunity he has.

Hopefully money doesn't change that.

A shot? He is the current number 1. Someone will need to steal it from him.

he played in 37 games which is 4 short of half a season he played excellent for the leafs and gave them no reason to think he cant be a solid goaltender for the next 3 years 1.8 million is a great price if he can play a consistent level of hockey and give them the opportunity to wins games. Also comparing a goaltender playing half a season and a forward of defenceman playing half a season is pointless we all know its not guaranteed reimer is the starter for the future of the leafs but this contract gives him a chance to prove himself while rewarding for his stellar play last year

Well, it's more than 30 games, the kid has played well at every level he's played at.

I'm sure the Leafs could have signed him for 900K for one year--but what then? What if he has a season just like the last? Then it's 3-4 million -- it's Steve Mason or Corey Crawford money.

Leafs took a risk believing in him and if he continues his strong play its a steal of a deal.

It may only be 30 games but he was one of the best goalies in the league for those 30 games.

I hope he does great, but of all the goalies to emerge last year, you have to feel Reimer has the most left to prove.
Please enlighten the rest of us how you can attribute a playoff push to garbage time? K thanks

Great deal for both sides. The kid is the real deal.

How was it garbage time? He sustained a run to the playoffs. They were fully in till the very end. He was also not a backup in the AHL. He split time with Rynnas but he wasn't a backup.

Apparently the time of the season when teams are pushing for the playoffs -- is known as garbage time to Hawks fans. Good thing because without "garbage time" the Hawks would have missed the playoffs.

This isn't the 1990's when divisional races were locked up at mid-season. There is no "garbage time"--in fact--races are tighter than ever with as many as 6 teams fighting for the last playoff spot. Garbage time doesn't exist in todays NHL. An astute NHL fan would know this but your comment was more trolling than anything and is understood.

Let's not forget his time representing Team Canada. That also reeked of rotting refuse.

I'd say Giguere is an average starter and he was better than that. So...Not.

He was above average in his first year in the NHL.

You're assuming a 23 year old with 1 year of NHL experience cannot improve.

Subban too

Good contract for both sides. If he kepps that level of play, he'll one hell of a bargain.

He's better than Corey Crawford and his 37 games proves that. Especially when you consider the teams in front of them. And he got almost one million less per year.

Of course Crawford is 26 and Remer only 22. Crawford does have a whopping 57 games versus Reimer's 37. Reimer's save % was .921 -- not quite as good as Crawford's .917.

Reimer also put up save % of .920 and .925 the last two years in the AHL at the tender age of 20-21. But of course Crawford is better with the .909 and .917 he put up as a 24-25 year old.

At 4 year younger, better numbers, and almost 1 million less per year -- Leaf fans will take Reimer any day of the week. Of course we can't discount all the experience that Crawford has over Reimer -- the whole 20 games -- which certainly makes him a lock for future success and Reimer a big question mark.

You can like my opinion or not -- you can also like the facts or not -- something tells me Hawks fans don't like the facts.
