NOW Habs have a good opportunity to upgrade some positions

Pouliot, Pyatt out so what is the plan? Is Gauthier will be active on the UFA's market or are ok with a rookie player ??
let's discuss

Habs have money and space and every absolute need covered. Now its time to look at what luxuries the Habs want to push the team forward.

I was thinking the same thing...primarily at the forward position since Halpern, TP and BP will not play for us...

I am not against Halpern, Moore, Belanger...

Who do we spend The 10 million in Cap Space on?

With the QO's sent out today and lets say 900 thousand worth of raises divided between Gorges,White and Weber that leaves us with 20 players signed and 10 million in cap space.Who do you want to sign July 1?

We still need a backup goalie too but wtv. I would go with Laich upfront, and see if theres room for Wiz, if not i have no idea. But its interesting, they are leaving room to do something significant.

Anthony Stewart is reportedly heading to UFA.

He's 6'2", 225 lbs, would be fantastic on our third line, and if he finds his offensive game could be slated into the top 6. I'd offer him a 3 or 4 year deal worth $2m/year. He was born and grew up around Montreal too.

Go July 1 and signs Stewart-Rupp-O'brien and say goodbye to small and midget CH team

Nice, I'd love that line. Makes AK play on his off side which can pretty much motivate to shoot more.

I could go for Stewart. He had his best season last year, I think. I remember reading about him in his draft year, he came from a really poor family and had to scratch tooth and nail to play hockey. Seemed to me he had to have lots of heart and character. I also think he was a Habs fan. Anyway, he could be really solid on the bottom 6 with his size, willingness to hit and the upside mentioned. Only question I have is what about his defensive play, if he is weak there I dont think PG looks at him.

We will need a right-handed centerman to replace Halpern. When was the last time we didn't have one?

Smolinski
Metropolit
Halpern

I find his heart and character to be lacking, in fact. His hockey sense is below average, and I don't think he's the type of physical presence Montreal needs. I'd pass, personally.

Right, we can't go too crazy because his best offensive season is 14 goals, but if he's got similar talent to his brother he could be a steal.

By signing the 3 RFA we tendered, we would have 9 forwards, 7 defencemen and 1 goalie signed. PG will lots of money and space to fill.

Thats too bad to hear. When I read his story I hoped hed be a real success. I dont mind so much if he has limited hockey sense if he just played a north- south, hit, go to the net and not screw up much kind of game. But, if he has questionable character and work ethic then Id pass too.

Since I think Wiz will be going somewhere else (also he is a little too expensive), why not go for someone a little cheaper but more defensive.

expect the unexpected... or by now, expect the expected:

we'll get some Press conference a week or two into July where the team will say their done, explanations on how we were major players and made solid offers on 2-3 big name quality UFA's, but couldn't attract them...

comments on how we've added the kind of depth and character we need to push us over the top, and praise for our new signees who are bound to excel in our system and perfectly complement the group we have...

and our roster will look something like this:

some will complain that the team, once again, wasted money overpaying for UFA's that aren't worth the price tag and lament the "to the cap" spending on a mediocre roster...

others will complain that too many people only complain about management, and stress that the Habs management team knows best because... well because they are habs management of course!

rinse, repeat, recycle...
