lol i don't think theres a market at all for nittymaki. i am pretty sure we are stuck with him. he's a 2 million backup goaltender, that's what his value is, and it's low.

scum doug wilson
says he refuses to sign UFAs on july 1st citing "thats when mistakes are made"

How was he supposed to know Niemi would be available? It was the only choice - he had to lock that **** up fast.

Including the playoffs or not? If the playoffs are included, he played exactly 60. (I don't know the waiver rules.)

Bruins added kaberle, canucks added hamhuis and ballard(and ehrhoff the year before), chicago was stacked defensively when they swept us, it's clear that we need defensive depth.

As much as I love murray he's not a two way defenseman(and I still believe he should be 2nd or 3rd pair...) which means teams just have to pressure boyle on the blueline as only one side of the ice is a threat- and no putting a forward back there is a horrible solution for powerplays, vlasic is still soft and still hasn't developed offensively, demers and white show potential but neither are great defensively. Wallin and huskins are useless because of lack of speed. Braun is still too raw and needs more time developing.

So what the heck are we going to do about the defense when all of our money is tied into our expensive top 6 forwards(and 2m in the backup goalie)?

Eh, I seem to remember alot of people sighting Nitty as a goalie they would "love" to have on the Sharks if they had to replace Nabby.

He was playing fine when he got injured. I like him, he's just not fitting into the cap.

I disagree. Anybody that has scouted the Sharks this year knows that Niittymaki didn't play his way into the backup position. He got hurt and Niemi got hot. And 2 million dollars with one year left on it is not untradeable when people know what they're getting with Niittymaki. Nobody will trade for him with the expectation of being a starter. They will trade for him to take the starts as needed and give another a goalie a chance to take the spot without putting the entire load on him. He's a good 1B option and that's what he's paid like.

If Florida isn't interested, Colorado likely will be, Toronto could be, Columbus could be, Islanders could be, Phoenix could be, and Washington could be. The key is that this has to be done before July before other options are available to teams. And if the Sharks have to take back a salary, that will be fine if it's the right player that could potentially fill a need on the depth level.

I could see the Sharks using a John Erskine or D.J. King from Washington or a Paul Bissonnette from Phoenix or a Mike Brown from Toronto. If DW doesn't do something stupid like he did with Ehrhoff and hang on to him, he shouldn't have a problem moving him for a pick or even taking back some salary that they were going to spend elsewhere anyway.

trade dany heatley?

According to capgeek, at the moment the sharks have 7.57 million in cap space. with that 7.57 million the sharks need 5 forwards and 3 defensman. but if we were to get rid of heatley, we would have at most 15 million in cap space
lines:
marleau-thornton-setoguchi(2.3 mill)
clowe-couture-ville leino(3 mill)
jussi jokinen(2.5mill)-pavelski-torrey mitchell(1.5mill)
jamie mcginn(0.75mill)-benn ferriero(0.75mill)-jonathan cheechoo(0.75 mill)

boyle-murray
andy greene(2mill)-vlasic
demers-jan hejda(2mill)

niemi
tomas greiss

POST YOUR FAVOURITE LINES. YOU ONLY HAVE 15 MILL TO WORK WITH

Problem here. Not to mention cap space for injury, a lot of cap is being spent on 3rd d-pairing, and I don't think Hannan would be coming back West...at least not to the Sharks.

No to all 4. You could only make an argument for Bergenheim, but I doubt Tampa lets him go after his postseason.

Also, Hannan is just awful.

For others that means look at the Devs record before JL left and look at the Star's record after he arrived.

FA list isn't exactly overwhelming. Sharks have no chance at Ehrhoff, Kaberle or Wisnewski. Someone will overpay drastically for Hejda. And the rest are pretty meh.

Wouldn't mind taking a look at Vinny Prospal or Sturm if they're healthy. Kobasew and Bradley as well.
