Beckett is brainless? What does that even mean? He's a great pitcher who you'd kill to have pitching for you in the playoffs. And it's not Ortiz's fault that the Orioles pitchers suck and got pissed off that they suck and decided to throw at him for three straight pitches. The Orioles can't stop the Red Sox from scoring so they decide to throw at them? What did you think was going to happen when Gregg started yapping at Ortiz after he was running down to first base?

The first "inside pitch" was barely inside and Ortiz caught an attitude.
The second pitch was a little closer and Ortiz threw a hissy fit.
Neither pitch was that close. The third "inside pitch" Ortiz cheated on and tried to put it out of the park.
Then after the game in the interview Beckett said Gregg hit him with the pitch.

Looked like he did hit him with the third pitch. Not a body shot, but it looked pretty clear that it caught his jersey.

And it was the first three pitches that were all inside, and Ortiz reacted after the third, not the second. I think Gregg's intentions were pretty clear at that point.

I called a homer three days ago

I'd like to take this opportunity as a Yankees fan to thank Derek Jeter for everything he's provided over the years

I agree. I became a Yankee fan when they were a miserable team. Derek Jeter will always symbolize to me the turnaround of that franchise. I mean, I grew up with guys like Alvaro Espinoza at short. *shudder*

Would he? I know he's extremely rich, but that ball is worth about $500K.

Well forget what I said, the kid who caught the ball gave it away for peanuts compared to what he could have got.

Suite tickets for the rest of the season until the world series is peanuts? If they go that far, those tickets are amazing in value. Also, the memories that could be seen at those games > holding the ball hostage from Jeter.

It's also a classy move for a player that hasn't done anything wrong in his career.

3000th hit at home! And a home run no less, for a non-home run hitter.

Gregg 100% instigated that.. Ortiz popped out and gregg starts talking **** to him

The yankees organization would've paid it, it wouldn't come out of jeter's pocket.

I think you get a better 15 minutes of fame by giving the ball away than by selling it. Plus this guy will be able to parlay it into some cash. I think I'd have given it back too. I'd much rather be known as the guy who magnanimously gave Jeter the ball back rather than the guy who greedily sold it to the highest bidder.
