Great might be a stretch, Boston's better. Beckett and Lester own the Yankees. As for Jeter, since the DL ok, but he's been on the decline, what .270 last year? This year even more so. The past is the past, you don't forget what Jeter's done but you can't have him at the top of the lineup anymore.

The Yankees one major flaw right now is the starting rotation. Unless CC can play every game, I don't see them doing any damage in the playoffs. Texas should take them out very easily.
Not really. Burnett will certainly be used, Colon will be fine, and Hughes is a question mark because he's still recovering from his "injury" or whatever it was. While it is optimistic to assume that everything will be just fine, I think it's rather cynical to simply expect Colon to collapse without any real explanation as to why. If Hughes doesn't regain form, they'll use Nova or Garcia and try to hit their way through a series. Don't really see them having much trouble with any team except for the Red Sox.

Duda = greatest name ever. Between him and R.A. Dickey the Mets have some great names.

This team.

It's just mind-boggling. How the ****.

And again Keith tries to put that on Murph but maybe if Izzy doesn't load the ****ing bases in the top of the 10th we don't deal with that.

All Murph had to do is throw the ball to first and they're practically guaranteed at least 1 out on the play. Such is life.

Sox lost. We're now only one game behind the immortal juggernauts and eternal overlords of baseball who cannot be stopped ever.

Haha, right. Go look back at the beginning of the thread, when your fellow Yankees fans were writing the Red Sox off after their rough start, and saying "Tampa is the only team that scares me."

Red Sox have absolutely pounded on the Yankees this season so far. Gonna be an interesting series over the weekend. Losing Bucholz is gonna hurt.

Yikes, just found about Buchholz. Huge blow for the Red Sox. Luckily they got a decent #3 starter in Bedard, provided he stays healthy for at least one month. Lester-Beckett-Bedard + Sox bullpen makes them pretty much geared up for a playoff run.

just seems the sox pound us in the first half every year. i think a couple years ago they started like 8-0 against us on the season and the season series finished 9-9 or somehting like that.

Wasn't me. I can't speak for my fellow fans. They piss me off 90% of the time anyway.

Jurrjens is not an ace. That team doesnt have really have an ace but if you had to choose someone it'd be Tim Hudson.

Jurrjens has been lucky this season, evidenced by .263 BABIP. He's also stranding 82.7% of runners while his career average is around 75%. MB average is around there too, there is no way he sustains it for a longer period of time. Jurrjen' xFIP is almost 1.5 runs higher than his ERA. His ERA is extremely fluky. His ERA in June and July is over 3 and over 5 since the all-star break (3 starts only) so the decline is well on the way.

Phillies have 3 legitimate aces: Lee, Doc and Hamels. Braves have none ... they do have a deep rotation and a very good bullpen. Giants have 1 ace (Lincecum) and 2 very good pitchers in Cain and Bumgarner.

And speaking of Bumgarner. He's better than Jurrjens.

I don't put much stock in FIP considering the fact that fielders exist.

4th in xFIP and 7th in WAR - those are MLB ranks.

He's a legit ace.

Fielder's exist, but you can't expect the fielder's to 1- always help the pitcher as they have, and 2- how good the fielders are isn't an indication on how good the pitcher is.

I think Jurrjens is good, but he's likely going to regress.

Same with Hunter Pence, his BABIP is off the charts.
