CBJ Sign Grant Clitsome to 2 Year Deal

Per portzline...

Aportzline Aaron Portzline
#CBJ have signed D Grant Clitsome for two years, $2.5 million to avoid UFA. He'll make $1.1 million in 2011-12 and $1.4 million in 2012-13.

In a related story, jokes about Grant Clitsome's name to continue for another 2 years.

I like the terms, good signing by Howson. Pretty sure this means no more Stralman in Columbus, so good in more than one way.

Terms are pretty good. I'm just wondering if that means the end of Matt Carle to Columbus rumors. One can only hope.

I was expecting a bit less given that it was only one season... but, hey, I'll take it.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

Aww, but I want Carle.

Me, I'm convinced it's the end of Stralman in union blue, and Thank G-d for that.

Good move by Scotty. I liked Grant's development this year and he's coming pretty cheap for two more seasons. Only if he becomes worse than Stralman will this be a bad deal IMO.

So I guess this means Russ and Stralman won't be back...

Happy to see him back.

I'll believe that when I see it, too.

As to the Clitsome signing, good news. He's got needed skills.

I hope Stralman doesn't show up in the NHL again. The amount of money he wanted for the **** defence he played. Don't see CBJ after him now.

Russell I would like to see coming back, although this signing is setting up for a potential Carle for Russell + swap imo. Don't like it, but I guess I could live with that.

It just abruptly struck me how similar this contract structure is to the Marc Methot "prove you can do it" deal that's expiring this year.

Just a silly side thought.

I wouldn't mind seeing Stralman in the NHL if that's what it takes to get something for his rights. I want a damned refund if I can get it.

Seriously, thanks to that "reappears only when Moore is in town" act... I don't think any Jacket has ever pissed me off to the degree he did save Nash's "C" predecessor. Never before believed I could feel that way about someone who played for us based on on-ice play rather than off-ice shenanigans... but I've now learned that I do indeed have that capability, to my eternal regret.

Yea but wasn't Marc Methot a whipping boy before last year? It seemed last year was a bit of a coming out party for him and his tag of being underrated is in jeopardy now. If he continues on that, he could be looking at a modest raise.

Clitsome they didn't really have a choice, the guy was on pace in an 80 game schedule to score well over 40 points. I realize that its likely it wont happen to the same extent, but that killed alot of Howsons negotiating options.

Not entirely a whipping boy. He had himself some devoted fans. The problem was that that devotion, early on, took the same form as that of the folks who were convinced Clay Wilson was a breath of fresh air compared to Ron Hainsey. So there was quite a bit of pushback, probably more than was deserved.

I agree, Strallman should be on his way out as a CBJ player. He had glimmers of hope at the beginning of the year but I sure got tired of him getting penalties called on himself shortly after we went on the power play.

I really like Clitsome and am very happy that he has been re-signed. But I've seen this too often lately when as soon as Howson signs someone to a contract they stop progressing and we wonder why they are making so much for what they offer. I really hope Grant breaks the tradition.
