LOL I was thinking the same thing,

Yes, he became a great defensive center, but it wasn't overnight,

I was simply making the point that the Kings now don't have to thrust anyone into this and they can still develop him while protecting him as well....

Even if you keep him for the important faceoffs... where do you put him
at non faceoff action.
nice, so you don't mind giving up those goals in your own end when your center can't win a draw, correct?

Ignore Kurrilino in regards to Stoll. If he was GM for a day, he'd ship off Stoll for two tickets to see Transformers 3.

That's actually kind of tempting and I like Stoll.

They took Megan Fox out of the movie. That's the only reason I saw the first two. And the trailers look absolutely horrendous. Harry Potter FTW

Two tickets? To see it twice?

That would be highway robbery!

So why does it feel like things are shaping up for a big July 1st?

Drew for 5.75
Smyth traded

8 Million in cap space.

Someone is getting signed.

If we get 8 million in cap, we'll pitch a 7 million cap hit deal to Richards, tell him we're the closest to a title (above the Rangers and Leafs) and how he can live on the beach just like in Tampa.

Then he'll probably take a 8 million deal with the Rangers or Leafs, who both need him five times more than we do, and we'll sign Laich or Gagne.

Williams and Brown have amazing cap hits for two guys who can both score 25+ goals and 60+ points.

If the cards line up, we should at least do a pitch to Richards. The chances of him signing here are below like 5% due to:

A. He wouldn't be 'the man' or even 'The Richards' on our team
B. He would be asked to play wing more than likely, and everyone says he prefers to play center
C. Toronto/New York are going to overpay his ass since they NEED a #1 center
D. Reports say he prefers the East

Only thing we would have over the other team is that if he signed, he has a great chance of going for a Cup this season and for the foreseeable future.

But hey, it's a way better chance of happening than the Flyers or any other team offer sheeting Stamkos and getting him.

Also I don't think Dean would go for 7.8. His limit would probably by 6.5/7 million. Brad Richards would be a luxury/we're going to win a title right ****ing now type of move that we don't actually have to take.

I am fine with any of these answers on left wing:

Gagne
Leino
Laich
Richards

Richards is preferred, but I can understand if it does not happen. 3-4M on a LW allows trade deadline room as well.

I just noticed, the Kings have no significant raises coming up next summer so they should be pretty safe cap-wise for the next two seasons

Penner, Stoll and Mitchell are the only notable free agents on the team.

Isn't Gagne a shell of his former self, why so much love?

Penner Kopi Williams
(Laich) Richards Brown
Loktionov Stoll Parse
Clifford Lewis Richardson
Westgarth

although

(B.Richards) Kopitar Williams
Penner M.Richards Brown
Loktionov Stoll Parse
Clifford Lewis Richardson
Westgarth

would be legendary!

Perhaps, but I wouldn't say big just yet Lots of contracts to iron out still and we don't know who Dean is going to take, for all we know we end up with Ponikarovsky for another year It's exciting because Dean pretty much guaranteed that he is going to do SOMETHING, so at least we know it won't be uneventful, but some of us are wildly overestimating what that something could be

Gagne gained traction by having a stellar playoffs with the Lightning. He has lost a step, but he can still produce. He is better than Smyth.

I don't think Gagne would be a good fit for this team at all given the system. He's a high risk/high reward type of player though so a 1 year deal wouldn't hurt if you can get the other guys available. I'd rather see a LW brought in who is more than a stop gap since Penner can walk after the season is over.

The way I see it, we need a third or fourth line RW and a first (or second depending on how Penner looks) line left wing.

Penner/Xxxxxx - Kopitar - Brown
Penner/Xxxxxx - Richards - Williams
Parse - Stoll - Richardson/Xxxxxx
Clifford - Lewis - Richardson/Xxxxxx
Westgarth

Parse would seem to be the odd man out as if we add another top six left winger, as everyone on the first two lines will be able to play on the power play and Clifford could probably move up to the third line, but I think a guy like Dwight King or Rich Clune could fill that spot and it would be nice to keep Parse around in the case that one of our offensive players goes down with injury, particularly being that the left side is so weak.

Free-agent options
---1st/2nd line LW

Top tier
-Brad Richards (the only elite option)
-Simon Gagne
-Jussi Jokinen
-Michael Ryder
-Brooks Laich

Second tier
-Ville Leino (arguably top tier)
-Vinny Prospal
-Radim Vrbata

Wildcards
-Tomas Fleischmann (pulmonary embolism issues)
-Jamie Langenbrunner (rumored locker room issues, age)
-Steve Sullivan (age, injuries)
-Alexei Kovalev (age)
-Erik Cole (inconsistent without Staal)
-Cory Stillman (age)

---3rd/4th line RW
-Scottie Upshall
-Patrick Eaves
-Pascal Dupuis
-Boyd Gordon
-Antti Miettinen
-Chad Larose
-Fernando Pisani
-Ruslan Fedotenko
-Mike Rupp

Trade chips
-Scott Parse
-Slava Voynov
-Andrei Loktionov
-Jeff Zatkoff
-Bud Holloway

My thoughts on the players listed above: (ranked in order)

1. Jussi Jokinen- Yes please.
2. Ville Leino (arguably top tier)
3. Brooks Laich
4. Simon Gagne
5. Erik Cole would be intriguing on a 1-2 year deal. Don't think it would happen but he would be a solid #2 LW.
6. Radim Vrbata - tired of seeing him score on us.
7. Tomas Fleischmann (pulmonary embolism issues) - for the right price and as a final option. 2M
8. Sean Bergenheim (added him to the list) Like his game, will drop the gloves and he hits. Could be had for 1-2M

Nope:

Brad Richards (the only elite option) - too much money
Michael Ryder - Age and thought he was a RW
Vinny Prospal - age - Injury Bug
Jamie Langenbrunner (rumored locker room issues, age)
Steve Sullivan (age, injuries) too small!!!
Alexei Kovalev (age) Never happen, Frolov 2.0
Cory Stillman (age) He is on AARP right?

Parse doesn't strike me as a 4th line type player, and we all know Murray will probably dress Westgarth for 50-60 games.

I just want to know if either of JB or JQ may get traded.

Personally, I wouldn't mind holding on to both of them just a little bit longer.

But yeah, eventually, one (hopefully JQ) will get traded.

I think it is turning into the Schenn situation. They are holding onto and developing them, but I think they are now leaning towards Quick and if a big deal were to arise, they would move Bernier, if not they are happy keeping him and seeing what happens. But I think Quick's performance these past couple of seasons have dissolved Bernier's untouchable status. In all likeliness, he is still here this time next season though, but if Quick puts up another season this year like he did last, LA would be actively shopping Bernier. Quick's hip injury concerns me a little, goalies with his style all go through the same, as long as his holds up then I have little quarrel placing the franchise in his hands. Right now, I don't think you can go wrong with either.
