i wouldnt mind taking a shot at Connelly. It would have to be a very cheap short deal though but man he has skill the 10 games he isnt hurt ha.
Isn't Connolly a pure center? Has he ever played LW? Plus I think some team is gonna way overpay for him. He's probably one of the top 3 C's on the UFA market.
If we strike out on Gagne, Fleischmann, and Leino; does anyone think DL takes a look at Brunette? I know he's old (37), but he's always healthy (hasn't missed more than 2 games in a season in 10 years) and can still produce points. He's only a year removed from a 25-36-61 season. Thoughts?

Prospal is an interesting idea. Certainly not ideal but for a one year stop gap in a time where there aren't much to choose from he could potentially be a decent choice. Or a complete disaster, who knows
I'm leaning towards taking a risk with Fleischmann, unless he demands four or more years.
Couldnt we use Parse for that and not have to use cap space on a UFA, save it for picking someone up at the trade dealine. If not Parse, Richardson or maybe Holloway could even jump in and see some time in that spot. Then wait til someone who fits the spot becomes available.
LW, Simon Gagne -- It feels like he's been in the League forever, but Gagne is just 31. He's had his share of injury problems the past two years, but he closed strong with Tampa last season. He had 7 goals and 11 assists in his final 13 regular-season games and had 5 goals and 7 assists in 15 playoff games. Tampa always felt like a one-and-done situation for Gagne, so expect him to sign elsewhere and provide and offensive boost. Best guess: He signs in Los Angeles
Parse is going to be on the roster and given his shot at the top 6 job.
I also see us giving another one of the kids the bottom 6rw job. We might still pick up a player if everything works out just right but we aren't likely to simply gamble on someone.

We don't need much cap space for a deadline acquisition since a traded player's cap hit is relative to how many games are left of the season. Or something like that.
Besides, having a stop gap veteran would be nice in case of injuries. I mean if we play Parse in the top six and a top six gets injured, we're gonna have to start gambling on Monarchs. If a guy like Prospal is there, we just plug in Parse. It's like a buffer.
But I understand what you're saying though. I'm not entirely sold on any of the options we currently have, unless a great trade falls into our lap.
I sort of see DL's MO as being the guy who waits for awhile allowing all of the jumpy UFA's to get signed and the ones who felt that they would get a better deal to simmer a bit and then scoop up someone on the cheap.
I dont see people rushing out to sign SG and so could see us possibly letting him ripen on the vine for a bit before we go after him.
Been saying it all along, I predict Gagne. Too perfect.

I would stay far away from Gagne he's one hit away from Deadmarshville. I'd sign Upshall or Ward or Mayers or Nichol to round out the bottom 6,and call July 1st a day.
It's coincidental, but I can't help but notice that the effect that Prospal's had on teams throughout his career:
2002-03 Ducks: 40-27-9-6 (lost in SCF)
2003-04 Ducks: 29-35-10-8 (missed playoffs with Prospal)
2005-06 Ducks: 43-27-5 (lost in WCF)
2002-03 Lightning: 36-26-16-4 (won division, lost in 2nd round with Prospal)
2003-04 Lightning: 46-22-8-6 (won Stanley Cup)
2005-06 Lightning: 43-33-1 (lost in 1st round with Prospal)
2008-09 Rangers: 43-30-3 (lost in 1st round)
2009-10 Rangers: 38-33-11 (missed playoffs with Prospal)
2010-11 Rangers: 44-33-2 (lost in 1st round, Prospal missed most of the season)
