Is he in for a big raise? He's put up some decent numbers but a lot of that had to do with playing with Crosby. He's been making 1.4 million a year. What kind of $$$ is Shero going to throw at him? Or do you think he's going to test the waters of free agency? What would he get from another team?
Shero will do what he does with all of his other free agents: he'll offer them a fair deal, but he will not overpay for them.
With so many teams so far below the cap -- and many needing to spend $ just to get to the floor -- veteran leaders with playoff experience, like Dupuis, may become very valuable to young teams who are looking to develop their young players and take a step forwards towards competing for the playoffs.
I could easily see teams like NYI, EDM, TOR, FLA or others give players like him or Talbot more $ and longer term than would be "fair value". In short, someone may overpay for his intangibles.
He'd earn $2million on the open market, but I think Shero tries to sign him for between $1.5-1.7. Whether that gets the deal done or not remains to be seen (and term may be as big/bigger a factor than money).
I imagine he's looking for a 3 year deal (personally I think Shero might be reluctant to give him the last year). If he signs with the Pens I imagine it's for around 1.8 (same as Cooke) and if hits the market he'll want somewhere between 2-2.5.
I love to see the Pens resign Dupper, however, I think he'll get offers a lot higher than they can afford. As a Penguin, he should get 1.8-2. If he hits the market anywhere from 2-2.5. I wouldn't blame him if he left for a significant raise on his 1.4 last season.
