I'm open to giving him a spot on the 3rd line a checking line of torres-Drury-Armstrong would be pretty sweet

that said how does GARTH know we won't land Richards? I mean I don't expect us to either but with all the cap space we have I won't dismiss the possibilty either.

Drury was an amazing player.. for Colorado and Buffalo.

He hasn't been the same in quite a long time.

If they could sign him for about 2M, then I think he'd be a decent option as a 3rd/4th line center and PK specialist. I think Bozak would be the odd man out in that situation; 1st line center (Richards?), Grabovski, Drury, 4th line center (Brent?).

2 million? He should be happy if he can get minimum.

And no thanks. He is not better than Bozak and at least Bozak is young and has some sort of future.

I would sign him for $1-2 Million for 1 year to be the third line centre. Nothing more.

If he's still available by training camp then the Leafs could give him a try-out contract.

I'd rather have Brooks Laich.

hey guys, new member here. been coming here for a while finally decided to join. i dont think chris drurys a good fit here. hes on the older side, not good for a rebuild and hes not in the best physical shape..coming off injuries and a pretty terrible season. maybe for a year or 2 to fill a spot, at a cheap price. but as a key piece for the team moving forward, i dont think its a smart idea to sign him

If it's for 1 year, then I say do it. I'm sure he could fit in on the 3rd/4th line.

If they sign Drury it sure as hell better be for less than 2 mill. The guy hasn't been healthy for years. He's no where near the player he once was. He's not a top 6 forward anymore.

Drury may actually be eligible for a contract with performance bonuses:
Quote:
Performance bonuses will only be permissible for the following types of players: (1) players on entry-level contracts; (2) players signing one-year contracts after returning from long-term injuries (players with 400 or more games who spent 100 or more days on injured reserve in the last year of their most recent contract); and senior veteran players who sign a one-year contract after the age of 35.
http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26366

According to this Drury was placed on the injury reserve on the following dates:

September 20, 2010
October 16, 2010
February 4, 2011

So from Yahoo stats using the day before the first game played he was gone for:

September 20, 2010 - October 14, 2010 (25 days)
October 16, 2010 - December 14, 2010 (59 days)
February 4, 2011 - April 8, 2011 (63 days)

For a total of 147 days.

they have 1 legit centre in grabovski and a maybe in bozak. drury is a good 2 way player when healthy. he is a winner and would definitely help the young guys they have on the team. he would definitely help them defensively. which is a huge problem for them

Obviously he would have to pass a physical, but given how highly Burke thinks of Drury he may take a chance with him. I agree with those that say 1.8 for 1 year in that area contract is very little risk for this type of player. At worst you have a 4th line center that can win faceoffs, bring in some veteran leadership that this team misses. Drury is a proud athelete and I am sure he wants to prove Sather wrong and it wouldn't surprise me if he did, it would be a great signing.

The Leafs should absolutely be interested in Drury, and if the Rangers are intent on buying him out, we should be looking to change those plans. A Drury buyout is going to cost NYR $3.7m and $1.8m on the cap for the next 2 years, and they don't even get a player for that. By spending only $800k more in the first year and $2.8m more in the 2nd year, they get Komisarek who is easily worth $800k, and problably worth $2.8m with a change of scenery. That's worth taking on the last year at $4.5.

From Toronto's perspective, a #1 centre to build around problably isn't going to be available to us this offseason anyways, so deal with 1 more year of pain instead of 3 years with Komi.

Unless he's centering our fourth line for no more than 1m for 2 years, not interested.

EDIT: @Jfried, if we can dump Komi AND we don't get richards I'd take drury's contract.

Never thought I'd agree with you, but you're absolutely right. If he is any wrose thank he was last year (I hope it's not possible) he should be bought out in the off-season. He's already 28 and isn't going to get any better.

The fact that we are hoping that he just gives us average defending is more worrisome because of what he was brought here to do.

I hope if we don't get Richards that Burke doesn't hastily overpay for one that might be avaibable (Spezza, Carter, Stastny) and wait it out another year, because if playoffs is the goal for next year, if Reimer plays anywhere close to what he played last year we will be in the playoffs, with or without Richards, and if he doesn't we draft up in a strong draft and not finish 9th and get the 15th pick.

Why are people even considering Drury? The guy is like 35. What place could he possibly have on this team? He'd just be another impediment for our younger guys who may actually be with the team if it ever gets competitive.

He'll probably go to a competitive team looking for a 3rd or 4th line veteran guy. Maybe Detroit, to replace Draper.
