theoretically, from 1-14, how many of those teams would be apt to select a defenseman over a forward? We know at the very least RNH, Landeskog, Huberdeau will be taken high. Courterier as well probably.

If Oleksiak + Klefbom climb
high enough to get in there, we'd be looking at:
Larsson, Hamilton, Siemens, Murphy, Oleksiak, Klefbom.
Should leave us with a good group of forwards to pick from.
Anyone else thinking the Islanders do their usual thing, and pick a guy nobody expects them to pick (with the exception of Tavares, of course). I'm thinking Bartschi.

The Islanders are going to pick Zibanejad...book it. I just have this funny feeling.
The Isles will go with one of Huberdeau, Couturier, Landeskog, or Hamilton IMO.
Im thinking this one goes a little different than most of the mocks...
Edmonton - RNH
Colorado - Landeskog <--This is the surprise pick and I just have a weird feeling about it. Hey...I called McIlrath last year, I don't think anyone else had that one.

Florida - Huberdeau
Devils- - Larsson
Islanders - Couturier
Colorado loves their off the board picks a la Hishon who is turning out to be quite the player.
Here's a scenario I can see...Murphy due to his size and defensive issues drops, drops, drops and it gets to the 15th pick. Does Gordie bite?
I'm not sold on him.
Oleskiak intrigues me and I'd be fine with it if the McNeil/Schiefle combo are gone.

My top-15 mock. First I've done.
Why do you think Dallas would take Miller over Schiefele?
I think the Islanders trade down and they keep loading up...they trade down 3-5 spots pick up another 1st and 2nd and they keep closing the gap. If they ever get that new arena...they will be a force to reckon with.

I think the Isle need to focus on defense and goaltending, now. They aleady have a pretty good theoretical forward group. Staying where they are to get one of the better d-men would be smart IMO.

I think they are good in goaltending with Poulin, Nilsson and Koskinen.
They can trade down 3-5 spots and still land Duncan Seimens, Murphy or Oleksiak or even further down and get Morrow.
I can see them trading with the Leafs...taking 25, 29 & 39 and a player.

I'd love this. I'd just switch 4 guys, Larsson and Hamilton and then McNeill and Bealieu

I'm wary about selecting a dman high, given how that has turned out in the past. And im not talking about islander history, i mean in the NHL. almost all of the top forwards have come out of the first round where most of the dmen come out 2-7. I'd rather go with one of Huberdeau, Landeskog or Couturier and then use the second round picks to select defenseman. Also, im in favor of trading up with those second round picks and using them to select a dman.

thats the pick i'd make if i was the Avs...then grab a dman at #11. i think you'll see a bigger drop in forwards than dman at the 11 spot
