I would love to see Doug Gilmore become our next assistant coach. He knows what it takes to win, and he won't put up with BS from our guys. I would love to have his intensity and passion behind the bench.
It sounds good in theory, but as an avid follower of the OHL, I can tell you Gilmour has been an unmitigated disaster behind the bench in Kingston.
What should have been a powerhouse team this year devolved into a mess of locker room issues, players fighting with management, etc. He got nothing out of that team and has been nothing short of a joke. And I say this as a guy who liked Gilmour.
Thankfully he has moved to the GM role there, so I doubt he's in the cards.
Good for Kirk. Wish him the best, he is a standup guy.
will be interesting to see who will be the new asisstant. I think PG has his hands full for the next couple weeks, so we will prob not hear anything about coaching staff till mid july at least.
I'm fine with that to a certain extent. As montreal said it is unfortunate to have so many new coaches in Hamilton over the last few years; however perhaps with so many new faces, it's not such a bad thing either? Can't argue he did a real nice job in Hamilton this year.
I think the most important thing is that the player is not far removed from the game, and Cunneyworth played up until 11 seasons ago.
I would like to see them keep the other Randy in Hamilton to take over the head coach job, it would be a decent continuity, and wouldn't be so much of a change for the players.
Big Bird would do fine as assistant. He can't handle being the fall guy, and that would be JM.
I think even being an assistant could be too much for him in this market. I mean the guy is a living legend, so he wouldn't just be a background assistant.
Ok, what a mess, Muller wants to be a head coach, he goes to the American league, Cunneyworth comes up.. Why not just send Muller to the Dogs then??? Keep him in the organisation.. I think some people within the organisation didn't think hard enough.. Or they just wanted Muller gone, Sick of hearing about the fact that he wanted out? Confusing..

Maybe the habs don't feel hes a good hc? Or maybe Muller knows he has a better shot at being promoted from another teams farm club as he knows he won't get hired to coach here.
If Kirk was so anxious to get a "head coaching" job apparently at even the AHL level, why did we sign Cunnyworth last season after Boucher left? I am NOT impressed that we have lost 2 impressive young coaches back-back years!

What do you propose they do? If you get good assistants they will get opportunities elswhere, part of the business.

I think we are in a really good spot in terms of finding top end talent to coach in Hamilton. The last 2 coaches we had there are now in the NHL, coaches have to see us as a coaching factory that lead to NHL jobs. We should have the cream of the crop wanting our AHL job at this point.
I'd also rather have Muller go and learn head coaching on somebody else's dime. I'd rather have an experienced head coach in Hamilton who has a history and a system that's proven.
I don't mind it as he has a long track record as an NHL assistant coach. You don't want to rock the boat with JM plus JM might turn to him when evaluating rookies in terms of giving them a chance.
