Biggest Western Rival?

I really don't believe there is any real heat between the Rangers and any western teams, but if I had to pick one I'd say Vancouver based on the 94' finals.

You don't see Western Conference teams enough to truly develop a heated rivalry.

the past few matchups we've had with the Avalanche have been fairly heated, I'd bet if we saw them more often a rivalry would develop.

A team like the Blues has a similar makeup to the Rangers roster, I'd say there's potential there for a rivalry. Same with the Kings. But we don't see any of them enough.

I wouldn't call it a "rivalry", but it seems every time we face the Blues, there seems to be a little bit more oomf in everybody's game. It's always intense, chippy, and occasionally goony. It's usually an entertaining game when we do face them.

I think that has more to do with each teams playing style than any sort of rivalry, like you mentioned.

Both teams have in-your-face, big-hitting, grinding forwards and it leads to a lot of intense battles.

the only match ups with any edge for me is Detroit or Chicago because it's O6. not really any dislike present or anything though.

I could see one forming with Calgary. The last time we played was great, and they seem awfully bitter about the Erixon trade.

I know this was from just last season, but the Oilers were pretty disappointed we didn't play them again after what happened.

Really noone, but I agree that Canucks are closest.

Logically it should be 'Hawks & Wings. Especially Wings.

Should be the Hawks or the Blues, Wings

Maybe its a NY vs LA thing

Went to a gm vs the Flames this year and there were a good number of Flames fans here...was pretty intense.

I think it's the Nucks. I've been to two Rangers home games against them in recent years, and the atmosphere was intense considering it was against a Western team. Nucks fans travel well.

Many Nucks fans are still ******** over 94 and hate the Rangers for it. When we lost to the Nucks a few seasons ago, a bunch of their posters came to our boards to gloat and troll. Fans of Western teams rarely do that, and if they do come to our boards, they are usually quite civil and complimentary (like Kings fans).

I still laugh at a radio ad I heard in Vancouver when I was there a few years ago that insisted they were "ONE POST AWAY from winning the Cup in 94."

Um, no.

Canucks in general, that 1-0 game in the middle of the year was insane and the crowd was chanting U-S-A.

To me, being fans of both teams there is a Ranger-Oiler rivalry because of all the trades that have been accumulated and the fact that many Oilers were on the roster of 94 team which made Oilers fans upset in general. Trades included Messier for scrap pieces, Tikkanen for Weight, Lowe, Anderson, etc.

That fight by Avery and Smid and the MacIntyre vs. Boogaard(rip) fights were intense.

I think if the Blackhawks remain good this will be an intense rivalry. It sting stings me that we lost in game 7 in 1971 after Stemkowski scored in triple overtime in game 6. That team is still my all time favorite team slightly ahead of the 1994 team.

Who could forget Bourrows stick to the balls of Staal on top of Richter stoning Bure!!!

But I would say NY and any major city or original 6 LA, Chicago, Detroit, etc. are all exciting.

Oilers v. Rangers could be a "rivalry" I guess, but it's more the Oilers fanbase jostling us. I've had Oilers fans (yes, more than one) tell me our 94 run was the real end of the Oilers dominance.
