AA is a big fan of smoke screens. He said he wasn't gonna trade Hill, yet he did. He said that FAs were last resort to him and he wasn't pursuing big name FAs, and now this. I'm gonna **** myself at this rate.

It's incredible that someone can be 5'11 275 WITHOUT eating meat.

If he did, he'd probably be 475 and dead lol.

I don't want to get my hopes up or anything, but I saw one of the last replies in the other thread suggesting it's Boras trying to use us to up the price and I find that hard to believe. AA and Beeston have said they will not be used like that, and the fact that they are supposedly going after a Boras client, unless it's a complete fabrication, the Jays must have a legitimate shot at signing him.

Even if AA has to go to 6/7 years to get it done, if we can be contenders in at least years 2-4 of the contract, to me its worth the extra year or 2 over what we'd feel comfortable giving.

Still, it's a moot point and I won't actually believe that AA is going after Fielder until it comes from his mouth, which means Prince will be signed, sealed, and delivered.

A clenup hitter behind Jose is a primary need now and the future. Fielder fits perfectly. Every great team starts with your #3/#4 hitters in your lineup. Honestly there is nothing in the system that profiles anywhere to the kind of bat Fielder has. Trading for Votto is not realistic, reds will extend him. Lind, Cooper, McDade, etc isn't the answer.

I really don't think we need to be concerned about years or money....as a life long Jays fan I am more concerned about this team paving it's way back to the top of the world where they belong. We deserve a winner after all the mediocre years with meaningless september baseball. I want to see that skydome packed like the good ole days. Fielder, Darvish, etc will generate a lot of fan interest and put the name "Toronto Blue Jays" back on the map in Toronto, and the rest of North America for that matter. We have been that 3rd/4th place team too long, time to take a baseball bat shine it up nice, and stick it up the collective ***** of New York and Boston.

If only I could.

Anyways, it seems like most of us want Fielder. I doubt AA hands out 7-8 years Fielder is looking for so that could thrown a wrench in the negotiations but if AA can offer him 25M annually for 5 years, maybe even 6, I think that gets it done.

It doesn't seem like the market is huge for him as NY and Boston have their 1st baseman. Angels might be happy with Trumbo and don't feel like blowing 160+ on a 1st baseman. Nationals aren't really in on him as they blew a lot of money on Werth and they have Morse who had a fantastic. Also got Harper who is a great bat coming up so it seems they are leaning towards spending on pitching. I haven't heard any Marlins connections either.

Even the reported suitors in Brewers and Rangers, I'm not sure they can get him. Brewers have only offered 5/100 which would suggest they may not have the money and they need to lock up their pitching. Rangers are a great offensive team and might decide to spend on pitching (read: Darvish!) so logically, Jays do make a lot of sense for Fielder. At some point, Rogers have to start spending and honestly, this would be a good time.

We can worry about Fielder's body breaking down but he is just 27 years old. I doubt he falls off the cliff as soon as he hits 30. His dad wasn't nearly as good of a hitter as Fielder and even he managed to be a good bat until 32 and went horrible after that (Prince career .102 OPS points better). Prince is also more durable than his father as the least amount of games he's played is 157. He is also a vegetarian now so he could stay healthy and durable for a longer period of time (his father fell off a cliff and retired at age 34).

The combination of power and walks makes Fielder so lethal and would be an amazing fit in the line-up (huge upgrade to our OBP) and Fielder seems open to the idea of DHing which wouldn't happen immediately but we could move him there in 3-4 years when he starts wearing down.

Honestly, Jays should make a hard run at him. Offer something like 5/125 or 6/145 (no more years beyond 6). The only team I would worry about is Seattle. They have a need for a bat and their GM drafted Fielder I think and its an AL club.

**** it, lets just sign Prince and Pujols. They can swap DH/1B duties from time to time.

Bautista-Fielder-Pujols or Pujols-Fielder-Bautista

Now THAT would be something that makes the entire sports world go, WTF?

This is getting absurd. How are these donkeys employed? It's something you'd see in the Enquirer.

I'm surprised the Cubs haven't been all over Fielder.

New front office, new manager. I expected them to go all out on the field and really get baseball in the north side hopping again.
