2 reasons. Most americans aren't interested in TOR. They'd rather play in a wasteland like CLE. The year JG was drafted, a few players wouldn't interview or workout with TOR. I think it was Gerald Green and Danny Granger.

2nd reason being NBA scouts are better then draft writers. If they were as good as NBA scouts, they'd be NBA scouts.

Don't think that your opinion is more valid then theirs. I remember the backlash that Charlie V took when we drafted him and he proved to be the better player.

So will the Raptors spend some of that Money

They recieved from Miami in the Bosh deal to buy a 1st rd pick or two. Or will the Teachers just tuck into their back pockets.

Biyombo over....Knight, Kemba among others?

I'd honestly, I don't even know.

I want a big as much as anyone, but Biyombo?

God I hope Cleveland continues to screw up and takes Biyombo, just so the Raps are forced to take someone better.

People aren't interested in Toronto because the franchise has sucked for 10+ years of its history, not because of any nationalistic reasons. In the few moments of franchise success, an all time great (Hakeem) wanted to come here, Bosh re-signed here, and when he was arguably the most marketable player in the league, Vince Carter re-signed here. Win, and Toronto is one of the best markets in the league.

Yup.

Most players care about money and winning. Everything else becomes secondary if you can give either of those 2 things.

We've been largely irrelevant for so long, people just don't want to come here due to that.

If we can get better and turn into a contender, people will want to play here.

"build it and they will come"

Players who I would take over Biyombo. I know, some are obvious but I'm just saying...

Irving
Williams
Walker
Knight
Valanciunas
Kanter
Leonard
Vesely
Thompson
Marcus Morris

Good list, and I agree.

You had me at "Players who I would take over Biyombo"

Though, Vesely makes me nervous. I'm not he's able to stick at SF with his defense.

I'm not even particularly high on Vesely, I just DON'T want Biyombo with the 5th pick. At 10-12 or so alright, but not at 5th. This guy makes Ben Wallace and Hasheem Thabeet look like offensive powerhouses.

And yet, sources said, Cleveland is still trying to engage the Toronto Raptors at No. 5 and the Washington Wizards at No. 6 to find a way to get another asset and still end up with Valanciunas.
Can you imagine...

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft/2011/

They updated their mock draft.

Kanter at 3, Val at 4, Knight at 5. Walker is apparently dropping and is listed at 12.

Oh gotcha.

I can't see Toronto moving up. It doesn't make sense at all. Toronto wants a PG or a Big. Cleveland isn't a risk to take Knight if he's available. And the bigs toronto is rumoured to be interested in aren't what Cleveland wants. Unless they wanted Valicunias

Yeah, I don't understand it at all.

The only reason I can see Toronto doing it is if they wanted Knight and Sacramento was a threat to trade up to four.

What do you know.

Kings have made it privately clear that they expect to trade 7th pick, sources say. "They're confident they have deal," one official says.
Hopefully this doesn't affect our decision.

as of this morning, it seems that almost every worthwhile mock draft (draft express, nbadraft.net, ESPN, several mocks posted on NBA.com) has an identical top 5

1) Irving
2) Williams
3) Kanter
4) Valaciunas
5) Knight

I'm not totally sold on Knight as a proper PG, but I'll take it over Biyombo

Same here. I REALLY want Kemba though. It'll be hard to see us pass on him, especially to take Biyombo.

Kemba not in BC's plans. No clue why.

Walker's stock is plummeting the last couple of days. There are concerns that he might not even be taken in the lottery.

That's enough of a red flag for me to cool any desire I had for the Raptors to take Kemba.

EDIT: also there's a story on Hoopsworld that Biyombo is now raising concerns because of a) his buyout, and b) the possibility that he's got a back injury (not a good thing for a guy who's a jumper.)

If BC wants to take Biyambo, than he should move down. I heard that Charlotte really wants Tristan Thompson and may be willing to trade their 9th and 19th for a top pick to ensure they get him.

It will be difficult to predict what happens. Minny might trade their 2nd, Utah may either go with a big man(Kanter) or a PG (Knight) but if Minny trade's their second to a team that wants a big man, Kanter could go 2, Utah may stick which choosing a PG, and thereby Williams could fall down. I doubt it, but there are too many variables which may affect the drafting order.

Apparently his potential back issue won't affect his drafting position. Doesn't seem to be a major concern at now, but who knows afterwords.

Starting to hear pretty strong signals that Biyombo is going to Raptors at 5.

not going to go through the over dramatic histrionics of some people, but I'm not happy with this. I like Biyombo's defensive potential, but at #5 I don't like drafting a guy who is a black hole of suck on offence.
