well, the outdoor viewing in Vancouver was an alcohol free zone. it would be perfectly fine, in my view, to have the garden party be alcohol free. they could let kids under 10 in free and make it a family event. more of the nonsense of t-shirt give-aways, pictures with Blades, contests between periods, etc. would be fine for this sort of event.

it would give those underage somewhere to go to enjoy the group atmosphere. those who wanted to drink have many options. but it's not to be.

let's face it, the idea was probably a bit late to be able to pull off with only one day between games.

ownership greed meets government idiocy and fans lose.

Sorry, I'm not blaming the team for this one. The general gestapo-like handling of Games 6 & 7 by the BPD & city in the Garden area has me furious.
I never said having a few beers makes one a drunk. But there are always a few too many drunks in the balcony who ruin it for others. Try sitting up there with a kid and you'd know what I mean.

I agree, there are. I don't sit up there with a kid and I know what you mean.

A victory parade will likely lead to rowdy behavior and public intoxication too. It's probably best for the BPD if the team lost.

Meh, I'm a season ticket holder of age. A family friendly event can be held at Chuck E Cheese. A Garden party should cater to the fans that have been buying tickets all year first and foremost.

As I said earlier in this thread, the city managed to plan for the Sox and C's rolling rallies in a day and a half, which are much more logistically complicated, so that excuse doesn't fly with me. I can't help but feel some discrimination against hockey/hockey fans and I've always felt like the Bruins are treated as the least important professional team in this city.

They were planning those parades as soon as those teams made it to the finals, just like they probably have one for the B's planned right now.

It's impossible to plan that in a just a few days.

I've been buying tickets all year, too, and for years. Last time I checked, you don't have to drink to go to a Bruins game. Why should the interests of drinkers win out over all? Besides, people who want to drink can go to any number of bars to watch the game. I can't really do that with a 13-year-old.

That said, I have no problem with alcohol being allowed at such an event, but the poster suggested the city wouldn't allow that. As a compromise, the Bruins could have held a viewing party that was alcohol free rather than to cancel it altogether. But they weren't willing to do that.

An alcohol-free viewing party would have been been better than no party at all.

Menino simply didn't want to deal with the aftermath. He's happy they're in Vancouver

I don't have to do a lot of things. But I'm an adult and want to enjoy a beer, I should be able to do it. That should trump all. If the BPD doesn't like it they shouldn't be in law enforcement.

I'll be down there with a large group of friends. I just hope we can get in somewhere. I've heard the bars are already filling up and I don't get out of work until 5.

Um actually he does when one remembers that he controls the BPD and their presence would be required.

So here's the latest spin, TD Bank North (A Canadian Company) refused to open the venue because of liquor sales, reducing profit.

Ergo Canadians prefer profit over Hockey.

A representative from TD Bank was not available for comment...

I had a ton of fun being at the draft party last year. Just the summer atmosphere and B's fans on a beautiful night. I'd kill to be on Causeway right now and hanging around the city as this night unfolds.

I'd be there if all they had for concessions was a 30 year old case of Tab and popcorn swept up from game 6... I blame TD Garden for not doing it without liquor sales.
