Other than a win?

I really want to see a top notch intro video. Maybe even 10 minutes long, chronicling the history of the Jets in Winnipeg (WHA, NHL), the fight to keep them in Winnipeg, losing them to Phoenix, the Moose years, and then a nod to the Thrashers with clips from their history. Then the video builds to a crescendo, people in the crowd are crying, and the team busts out onto the ice.

Firstly, a win.

Secondly, Hawerchuk, Chipper and Thomson dropping the first puck.

Thirdly, Did I mention a win?

Fourthly, Burton Cummings nowhere to be found.

I want to see a performance by an old, washed up rock band that isn't even into hockey. Def Leopard for example.

...But honestly, I would rather have no NHL opening bash at all than see that kind of disgrace again.

What i'd like to see? Teemu Selanne in a newly designed Jets jersey.
What i'd like to hear? Curt Keilback calling the game.

I do know one thing- I will be crying during that game, and they won't be happy tears. That's probably when it's gonna hit hardest for me, but oh well.

Idea- They should hold all their preseason games in Atlanta, and then OPENING NIGHT should be their first game in Winnipeg. That does two things- 1) Gives Atlanta the chance to say goodbye properly, and 2) allows for there to be a big climatic and emotional moment when the first OFFICIAL NHL game comes back to Winnipeg. And that way it's not some meaningless preseason game that makes it technically the first game back.

I like that idea, if you know what I'm getting at.

Cinematically and story pacing wise, that is a fantastic idea. Financially, it could be a disaster. Also, what happens if Philips werenít full for the send off? Though Iím all for at least a game in Atlanta, not that I have much say in the matter.

1) Nice 10 minute intro of Winnipeg's hockey history, the battle to keep the team, losing it to Phoenix, the Moose years, Atlanta Thrashers history to the point of Winnipeg getting the team.

2) Jennifer Hanson singing the National Anthem

3) Teemu Selanne playing his retirement year in Winnipeg

4) The TNSE owners centre ice for the puck drop

5) CBC broadcasting the game with Don Cherry and Ron McLean at the game

6) Curt Keilbach doing the play by play for the team

7) The Whiteout

8) A Big hit within the first 2 minutes of the game to get the crowd going

9) A win

Cool idea. I would be all for it.
The one issue with it would be that TNSE sold season tickets on the premise of have four home pre season games included in the ticket package price.

The intro to Arcade Fire's 'Wake Up' starts cranking out in the arena. The announcer over the PA says, 'Ladies and gentlemen, your Winnipeg JETS!', and they skate out as the chorus to 'Wake Up' hits. Chills, I tell you!

-A great video tribute to the past
-The whiteout
-A win

Question: How would people feel about using "Jump" again as the music the team takes the ice to?
I loved it back in the day, but the more I think about perhaps thats one of the things that can be phased out within the context of a fresh start. Even though I think on opening night it would bring the house down.
