Jagr interest in DET, PIT, et al. (Pens Withdraw Offer #754; Wings w/draw offer)

Czech newspaper Denik Sport reports that it is now certain Jagr will not play in KHL next season. One of the main reasons is that their summer camp starts too early and he feels he needs to focus on managing Kladno (he bought his hometown hockey club last month and it needs a lot of work so it won't go under).

Now, he's aiming to go to NHL and is presumably choosing from Red Wings and Penguins. It seems that Red Wings are the most likely choice. Estimated salary $2.5M.

This rumor should be taken quite seriously, the journalist who wrote it has longtime personal relationship with Jagr...of all the Czech writers, he's the one who is the closest to him. He would not write this if it were utter ********.

Jagr, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Holmstrom and Lidstrom. What a scary powerplay.

He turns 40 during the next season. He will fit right in on the Wings.

Whoever get's him is getting someone whose committed and sure to rack up points. Interesting thing I saw when I was looking at his career stats. He played 1 game for Schalker Haie and scored 11 points with 10 assists and 1 goal, that's crazy.

Seeing Pittsburgh as a possibility is interesting.

Even at 40 I think he'd be a spectacular winger for Crosby.

Detroit makes some sense. Jagr would look really weird in a Wings jersey though.

Wings definitely need to get older. And it would be great if Modano resigns and Recchi signs with them in the off season.
Is Hasek doing anything these days?

It does make sense. While he is managing his hometeam, he's still a player first and foremost. Playing in the NHL would give him about one month more time before training camp starts.

It's not like he will run the day-to-day work, it wouldn't be possible to manage a team that way and play somewhere else, regardless of where that would be.

As far as I understand it, he's the owner of the team, and he wants to make sure that the team and management is set up in a way that it can work just fine during the season. He's not going to be a full-blown GM just yet.

Modano did resign (not re-sign) and I would welcome a two-time cup winner vet who put up 50 pts this season. Provided the cap hit is reasonable I'd welcome Jagr as well.

I think that would be a good move for both Jagr and Detroit. I can see him doing well there, even with a couple steps lost in his old age of 39.

We'll take Gagne too while we're at it!

Seriously though he would be sexy on Pasha's wing.

Anyone know if Guy Carbonneau still wants to lace up them skates?
Detroit is lacking some good ol' fashioned Quebeckers.

Hasek says he's taking a year off and after that is planning to continue his career. Maybe a call from Holland can make him chance his mind?
