I probably shouldn't have used the term "superstar" as you are correct in implying that the term is overused.
I do however disagree that Grimaldi doesn't have St.Louis' upside. The upside is clearly there as they have absolutely identical skillsets, the only question is whether he can reach that upside.
FWIW nobody thought that St.Louis or Fleury would reach the heights that they did and Grimaldi is more highly touted than either of them were in their respective draft years.
I don't disagree with anything you are saying, but at 5'6" Grimaldi has a tougher road to reach his full potential than anybody else we can draft at 17(assuming he is there). More 5'6" or 5'7" guys with a ton of skill don't make it as NHL regulars than ones that do...now there are busts at every size, but the road is a tougher one when you are under 5'10".
Zakhar Arzamastsev
Had an impressive 9 points in 47 games in the KHL playing only 12 minutes per game for a very weak team. 8 of those points were at even strength. Plays on the same team as excellent Washington prospect Dimitry Orlov. Orlov had 13 points in 45 games playing 18 minutes (only 6 even strength points). Zakhar was -9 while Orlov was -18. As a comparable Orlov had 1 point in 16 games in his draft year. As with many russian prospects, his offense is being underrated by the low points total. He's listed as 6'2 205 on NHL.com's website.
He should merit strong consideration in the 3rd and 4th rounds.

With his name, he should get considered for a pick.

I hope he makes the NHL if for no other reason than to hear Don Cherry say his name
Let's not use absolutes as they are only applicable to death, taxes and the Leafs perrenially sucking.
You can't deny that the Habs trading up for Tinordi wasn't filling a need. We haven't had a big bruiser back there since Komisarek left(or since he blew out his shoulder vs Lucic).

The problem is that I believe he's under contract in the KHL until 2014 or something like that.

Even if Grimaldi doesn't become the next St.Louis/Fleury, most pundits are in agreement that he is a lock as a top 6 forward....pretty nice downside (Gerbe).

I believe that they felt Tinordi was clearly the BPA. I don't believe that they passed over any players that they felt were superior to him.

Yeah but as much as I'm not hugely concerned about size, you can't have 3 top 6 forwards under 5'11" on the same team. If you are the Habs in this draft you pass on Grimaldi for McNeill Klefblom Armia or Miller unless you think Grimaldi will be a surefire St.Louis. It's not just about Cammy and Gionta, but also Gallagher Desharnais MacMillan why have a shot at being top 6 forwards in 3-5 years.

I agree with you but MacMillan is 6 something. He just needs to put on weight & muscle.
I'm pretty sure Montreal will pick a player with great heart and work-ethics, I think they are very pleased with the direction this team is going. Players like Subban, Gorges, Markov, Gill, Plekanec, Gionta, Pacioretty, Desharnais, Eller, White, Darche, Cammalleri, Moen, etc all really wants to win, and I think Montreal will continue on that track.
So, which players doesn't fit this description and which players fits it very well?

I understand your concerns but I believe in acquiring assets that have the most value.
If the organisation feels the same as you do, then they can trade Grimaldi for a basketfull of Brouwers and Skilles in a few years.

Grimaldi is one of the fiercest competitors in the draft. He has been described as a warrior and is a dressing room leader.

Yeah, but he has a relatively small frame so he won't fill out to 6'1" 215lbs...probably more to 6' 185lbs.

Miller fits that mold, he is a lot like LeBlanc but a bit bigger and faster.

I have not seen him play live so I have to rely on scouts I know(and trust), but from what I heard we can get a guy with size and nearly as much skill with our pick.

imo there are only 3 forwards with truly elite skillsets in this draft....RNH, Grimaldi and Kucherov.
We have no shot at RNH and Kucherov is a huge risk (Russian factor).

You can also trade Desharnais and Gallagher for organisational needs.

Red Line also describes him as super soft(Kucherov), has him at #90 and comapres his style to SK74.

I'd have real trouble not including Huberdeau in that list. But that's just me.

They also called Marian Hossa soft and that he threw snow consistently to avoid contact.......
SK74 isn't exactly soft as he was a little wrecking ball when he first came up.
Don't put too much stock into what these publications write about players that they have hardly seen. Kucherov may very well be soft but his skillset is supposedly top notch.
I love Huberdeau but I don't think he has quite the same skillset as RNH or Grimaldi. If he did he would be the consensus #1 overall.
Fair enough. From what I've seen though, he is definitely a cut above the Landeskogs and Stromes though, so he has to be very close to that elite group.
I get the love for Biggs considering he might be the best checker in this year's draft, but his offensive potential is very underwhelming. Guys like Lucic, Clowe, all showed potential scoring upside in their junior days.
