Petrell is a fan favourite of his Finnish team that also included lacrosse Mikael Granlund and national hero Ville Peltonen. Says a lot about his hard work and decication on the ice. One of the MVP candidates on their way to championship. He would've made the World Championships team had he not hurt his ankle. My dog is named after him.
Before you start this kind of thing. Let's at least wait to see how many players are let go from last season. I think some of this is giving us options that could make the big club. Plus having lots of depth on the farm and getting around the AHL vet rule a little bit. As they really limit the amount of vets you can have down there (they go by North America pro games played).
We hardly signed anyone when we had the team in Springfield and people were complaining about ice time then. I want some competition at spots, Tambo promised that, even at the minor league level and he seems to be following through on that. I am sure they see guys like Pitlick or Hamilton as key guys, they are not going to sit them in the press box all year.
Solid points, it was a snap reaction but I do worry about how many lefty's we have in our system, I have been complaining about us not getting the right type of players and these guys seem to be the mold that I'm wanting.
I'm actually going opposite on this, I hate these two signings, going to impact our tradability of players due to contract limits and fills our center 3-4 depth even further which I'll admit may not be terrible but could impact playing time of real prospects like lander or pitlick
Why? Are we looking at making some sort of 1 for 4 deal? We saw what happened last year in OKC when the depth was taken away from them. Even if these two guys never play in the NHL it gives us some depth within the organization.
Antti Tyrvainen: An energy player with a fearless style of play. Variable with a good shot. Make some goals from rebounds. Aggressive, but sometimes the wrong decision. Dependent on good environment for success. (by: Ulf Andersson)
Lennart Petrell: A large forward who likes to check. Energetic and good with the puck. Offensively good. Petrell's main weaknesses are his defensive game and skating. (by: Matias Strozyk)

Petrell is a VERY good skater for his size. The guy hits everything that moves and can score aswell. A fan favorite here in FIN for sure.
As an HIFK fan losing Lennu pisses me off, but as oilers are my 2nd favorite team in the NHL it doesn't feel so bad. Take good care of Lennu.

Petrell is Powerforward/Grinder. Best hitter in Sm-liiga. One of the best PK guys in Sm-liiga. Good hands and protecting puck. Scoring is his weakness not skating.
If they both skate and hit, and this Petrell guy is a good PKer too, then they'll get their shot. Looking forward to seeing what they can do in camp.
Also interested in hearing what Tambellini thinks of these guys and if he thinks they're even close to challenging for a spot. Because as we've seen, it's tough to get your chances on this team if you're pigeonholed as an AHLer early on.

I don't know that this has been the case the last couple of years. Who exactly wasn't given a shot?
