What a disgrace. Thanks Canucks fans for marring a great postseason.

Instead of news outlets finally remaining positive when it comes to the NHL, you guys act like little babies and flip out. The NHL will never get to where it wants to be when every good thing is overshadowed by a negative. In this society the negative will always trump the positive. Now CNN ABC etc has the cup win second to the rioting. Bettman must be ******** his pants.

Hockey players and fans alike should be the role models for how sports should be played and attended. Passion is one thing, but this is plain stupid. Sure the Nucks sucked it up and it sucks but what does this prove?

Its embarrassing to the highest degree, and makes a great city and country look like ****. Blows my mind. Really does. The players, the city, the country and the rest of the NHL's fans deserve better than this, after a great season. These *******s should all be ashamed of themselves.
At the start of the game, you marvel at how close knit and proud the city is when the sing the anthem together - now they look like a bunch of dicks. Throwing things on the ice, etc.. come on..

Side note: Maybe Bettman shouldnt award the Cup anymore, on visiting rinks. Because it seemed like his presence put that building over the top of what was a very poor performance by Luongo and the whole Canucks team. I cant blame Bettman for the riot, of course not. But him being there sure didnt help.

Hockey fans aren't the only fans to riot.

http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/06/18/...ual-continues/

Not saying that makes it any less ridiculous, it's absolute stupidity and those who do it should be ashamed of themselves, but it's not like this is a new thing.

I was in Vancouver in 1994. I was there with my brother for game 6. It was the second best hockey experience of my life. The city is amazing, and was by far the cleanest city I have even been to. You couldn’t find a cigarette but on the streets…it was like that.

Fast forward to the game. The fans were amazing. We were among the only two Rangers fans I saw that day. Once people saw that we were in Rangers sweaters everyone wanted to talk to us. I cant tell you how many people actually stopped and asked if we came all the way from NY to watch the game. They appreciated it. Many of them actually bought us beers and what not. Just an amazing experience. Now after the game ended, things got a little crazy. As we exited the building, people were going ballistic. You would have thought they won the cup…It was that kind of a celebration. As we walked down to our car it got a little hairy. That’s where the obnoxious people came out with the “go the F home”…and some not so nice jeers started. It was like someone flipped the switch and we were in anarchy. One point we had a group surround us and one tried to take my hat and ended up with my glasses. There wasn’t a security guard or a cop in site. We got in the car and left. We both thought about how out of control that could have gotten fast as again, no security was there.

That night from the hotel (Westin Bayshore) we could hear the celebration go on till the wee hours in the morning. The car horns were what I remember most. And the “Go Cancks Go” chants. They paraded up and down Robson street all night long. We were in the same hotel as the players were at the time. I know they all heard it too. It had to sink in deep.

Of course game 7 was ours. I remember all the hype of what will Rangers fans do after the game…Talk of riots if they win or lose etc. As it turned out it was the exact opposite and the Nucks fans rioted afterwards.

I am shocked, and that this city after the first time didn’t step up and get extra security around there to prevent that from happening. I mean…how do you NOT learn from the mistakes the first time around?

However…I will say this. I thought that the fans that stayed in the building cheering the Bruins afterwards were pretty classy. Especially the Lucic applause. There are a lot of great fans in Vancouver, but I would toss blame on the city for the lack of a presence there to stop the garbage.

Lionhound is right, even in those pictures and videos there arent many cops. They shouldve learned their lesson, win or lose they should have had several hundred security guys and police their right outside, that couldve prevented the riot from even starting.

The city definitely dropped the ball there.

Thats a major no-no on the politics, guys.

A reminder- every large city or group of people has its idiots.

As I said earlier, it's up to the police to nip this in the butt early and the Vancouver police did not do that: Unless standing around and admiring the carnage counts as something.

I don't recall people in Calgary or Edmonton rioting.

No, just people thinking the guy who killed himself was a Bruin fan who was pushed.

The real question is, did anyone think this was NOT going to happen?

Thanks, Vancouver, for perpetuating the stereotype that "hockey is a violent sport and so are it's fans."

I'm on the NY Times website reading some comments on an article about the riots, and it just breaks my heart to see all the negativity surround hockey once again. What Vancouver fans did is beyond embarrassing, because now it may harm the growth of the sport. Huge fail on the part of the fans who participated in the riots and the city of Vancouver who did not properly anticipate such a violent reaction.

To be honest, I think the people hating on hockey because of this 'incident' were never likely to become potential fans anyway.
