I'd expect all RFAs to be resigned, and all 4 forwards to be on the roster next season with the possible exception of Brett Sutter. Defense I would bet on Joslin filling one of the holes, with a trade to fill the last.

Question is the UFA forwards. Sounds like Stillman is a safe bet to return if he does play next season, but beyond that it's completely up in the air, and it sounds like Jokinen and LaRose are as good as gone. Expect at least 2 or 3 prospects to get serious consideration for the remaining spots, as well as a signing for 4th line center along the lines of a Boyd Gordon type.

I'm guessing we'll see Dwyer re-signed w/Cole sounding 50/50. I also think that Sutter, Tlusty, and Bodie will all be resigned. That leaves 5 more forward spots (4 if Stiller re-ups). Figure Dalpe and Bowman have inside shots, Boychuk is 50/50, and Samson. That leaves the 4th line center position open for a UFA signing. I think that we also bring Joslin back, Harrison is our 6th/7th D-man, so there remains room for one UFA defenseman signing and/or perhaps, a youngster shining in camp. This tells me that 2011-2012 is the second half of our "re-tooling". Our real shot is if 2of the 3 young forwards show well and our "defense by committee" program surfaces again. Otherwise, we're in for a challenge.

Dave - how long do we have to sign or otherwise dispose of Levi and Stahl?

Through to next June 1st, those are just the only two we HAVE to sign by that point otherwise we lose their rights. Andersen we have another year with IIRC, and the NCAA kids have their full college eligibility left.

Dave, is it possible to add an actual salary/payroll line to this? I know it's currently close to identical; I have payroll at 37.035 with the addition of Pitkanen, Dwyer, and LaRose. But given the payroll is the major issue and likely to be around $50 million, I thought that would be helpful to keep track of as well.

Done, and FWIW, I took a look at Gomez's salary last night to see if there was any improvement this season on that. He actually makes more then his cap hit this year, which is why I said they better be sending over a couple firsts with him.

I've got total salary at $36.49 million and cap hit at $36.28 million. One of us is slightly off.

The numbers I have match up with Dave's, both individual and cumulative. Are you including Peters? I cannot think of anyone else on that list you would drop.

Yeah it's going to be different once I add guys. Boychuk and Bowman both have weird cap hits since they played that extra year in Jr. Also the bonuses for Skinner could affect the number.

Yep, they're actually the biggest reason our cap hit is higher then the actual salary since before I added them the cap hit was higher then the salaries by close to half a million.

For comparison, here's Luke DeCock's attempt today. His roster only adds Dalpe to the forward ranks, signs Sutter for $2 million this coming season, and attempts to send Samson to Charlotte. Given the payroll level he ends up with, I think it's likely Bowman and Boychuk go to Charlotte but Samson stays with either him or Tlusty in the press box.

added Sutter, so the roster is prettymuch set, just trying to figure out the prospects that make the team this year.

Not that I'm aware of. I don't remember deleting him in my last update either. Really weird.
