I'd be willing to have Barton on the team if nothing else. Since he won't make this team difficult to play against by improving a the backline, bringing in the biggest **** in the Prem wouldn't be that bad.

barton is nothing special in the middle he is better on the wings and we dont need another winger...
The Champions League payout is far from guaranteed, judging by this game here, and considering they have to travel to their place with Udinese playing pretty well right now.
By the way expecting the Champions League payout is more often than not factored in when clubs do their early transfer deals. So in this case Gervinho and Oxlade-Chamberlain.

They just received the 10-11 payout today, apparently, as did the rest of the clubs, so I agree it wouldn't factor into early spending budgets.
The payout for making the playoff round isn't that big if I remember correctly. The group stage one is the real prize, but I agree, he won't use them regardless.

Arsenal today got to their bank account around 30 million euros from last season's (10/11) CL. I don't know how much of it they had already committed to various causes like squad bonuses, but maybe some of it is available for transfers.
Oh, I see. I didn't even know exactly how they paid the money out and that it came in now. That's a freaking lot of money, even more than I thought for CL participation.

Interestingly, Chelsea received most from the CL television money, more than Barca or ManUtd, even if they didn't reach the final.
Their matches must have been the most sought after by TV companies, although their group stage opponents weren't the most attractive ones.

Thanks for the post, pretty interesting. Wonder why a couple sides didn't get any performance bonus?? Or how they determine Market/Pool...(is it possible that is from money made at gate?)
With 10 days left in this transfer window, I took a look where teams stand as of now regarding their surplus players.
Seems that there's at least a one line up's worth of players good enough for a lower level Premier League starting line-up from the top clubs only needing a transfer before the window closes.
All the teams need to dump players to fit in with the 25-player rule, so there should be some cheaply valued players available next week.
Top teams squads as of now (I left out the youngsters unlikely to get any minutes):
ManC (29 players)
Joe Hart (ENG) +2
Defenders
Dedryck Boyata (BEL) Wayne Bridge (ENG) Aleksandar Kolarov (SERB) Vincent Kompany (BEL) Gael Clichy (FRA) Joleon Lescott (ENG) Nedum Onuoha (ENG) Micah Richards (ENG) Kolo Toure (CIV) Pablo Zabaleta (ARG)
Midfielders
Gareth Barry (ENG) Adam Johnson (ENG) Michael Johnson (ENG) Nigel de Jong (NED) James Milner (ENG) David Silva (ESP) Yaya Toure (CIV) Vladimir Weiss (SVK) Shaun Wright-Phillips (ENG)
Strikers
Emmanuel Adebayor (TGO) Mario Balotelli (It) Craig Bellamy (WAL) Edin Dzeko (BIH) Sergio Aguero (ARG) Roque Santa Cruz (PRY) Carlos Tevez (ARG)
Some of those Liverpool don't really have to register but will do so for home grown purposes. Henderson and Kelly of the players I listed do not have to be registered, the only veterans I left out were Degen, Insua, Cole and Poulsen (who will either not be registered to get him to leave or will have left). So there is room for one of those players.
It is also possible that Liverpool would not register Henderson, then register Cole and Insua but I really doubt Insua will be part of the 25 man squad.
there are talks of Liverpool offering Insua around Italy for cheap (3.5-4ish) in a few rubbish sources. I wouldn't doubt it.
Ngog's probably gone, Aquilani as well. While Jones is on the roster, I ultimately expect to see a loan.
I still think we will see one or two players come in before the window shuts. Central defender, and probably youngish striker. But that's only if they can sell Ngog.
2 Branislav Ivanovic 3 Ashley Cole 4 David Luiz 17 Jose Bosingwa 19 Paulo Ferreira 26 John Terry 33 Alex 38 Patrick van Aanholt
5 Michael Essien 6 Oriol Romeu 7 Ramires 8 Frank Lampard 10 Yossi Benayoun 12 Mikel 15 Florent Malouda 20 Josh McEachran 21 Salomon Kalou 34 Ryan Bertrand 44 Gael Kakuta
9 Fernando Torres 11 Didier Drogba 18 Romelu Lukaku 23 Daniel Sturridge 39 Nicolas Anelka
What is the rule for the minimum number of home grown players again?
With Mata in we'll have 28 players.
Ideally we move, Alex, Benayoun and Kalou. Find loan deals for the youngsters (McEachran, Bertrand and Kakuta) and bring in 2-3 players to improve the squad.
If we can cash in on Malouda, Drogba and Anelka then I wouldn't be against that either.
edit: I just checked out the Home Grown rule and they would have to name 8 home grown players in a squad of 25. We have 7 under that rule (Turnbull, Cole, Terry, Lampard, Bertrand, McEachran, Sturridge). Not sure if van Aanholt qualifies. So I think the youngsters would stay to make up numbers. That leaves 22 squad players, which is fine if Mata is our last signing. If we sign another player after, then someone else needs to go.
