Close, but I would want one more roster player from FLA.

that's a shame, because not only would you not get that return, but certainly not more.

Okay, I'm not sure how the Panthers are getting fleeced here. I really don't understand it. The Panthers acquire a number one center with a lifetime contract under 6 million per year. They acquire Carle, who would most likely slot right into their top pairing, and will contribute 40 points to their team. And last but not least, Bobrovsky who essentially was the number one goaltender for the Flyers and put on a great performance (it's not his fault Laviolette had a man crush on Boucher).

So, the Panthers get a goalie who could start the season, a top four defenseman that's likely going to be one of their more productive guys on the back end, and a first line center. They get all of this, for two prospects, and a third/fourth line center with... you got it, potential.

Philadelphia doesn't touch this with a ten foot pole. Man, I really regret visiting the Trade board sometimes.

Philly takes this in a heart beat.

Horrible for Florida. Absolutely no reason for them to do this. Only player of value that they get is Carter. They dont need Bob and they definitely dont need Carle.

Then you expect them to give up Gudbranson and Larsson/Landeskog?

Mcmilli explained it perfectly, guys. I get it, though. High-end prospects are better than high-end NHL players on HFB.

That doesn't explain why the Panthers would do it. They give up their best prospect, a very good young player, and a top three selection. They're a rebuilding team, so how does it make sense to clear out their prospect pool now?

To be fair, I wouldn't do this if I were Philadelphia either. But these are two different teams in two different situations.

Yet you said the Panthers got fleeced. That's what the facepalm was about.

It's still a dreadful deal for the Panthers.

Yes, but do you honestly think that this isnt fair value for Carter? Because that's essentially all we're giving up. Carle and Bobrovsky dont have much value.

Gudbranson + 3rd Overall is easily fair value. And Mattias? Makes it a no brainer.

People were seriously considering Voracek + 8th overall, and this is a much better package than that.

Flyers easily do this.

But the biggest part that you dont seem to understand is that even if it is fair value, it throws Florida completely off track. It's really an awful trade for them.

Because they get a surefire first line, 26 year old center. They also get a surefire, 26 year old top four defenseman. Then, they get a 22 year old, starting goaltender that put up 28 wins in 54 games.

It's safe to say they'll get at least 8 years out of Carter and Carle, 10 or 12 out of Bobrovsky. They lose potential, but they get the real thing from three solid NHL players.

They're not a playoff team with Carter. Therefor, trading the future for him makes little sense.

And if you're not a playoff team, then a guy like Matt Carle is of absolutely no use to you.

And Bobrovsky offers the Panthers nothing either. They have Markstrom who really does have loads more potential. Also, as much as I like the kid, he wouldnt have been nearly as steady if he wasnt on one of the best teams in the league this year. If he was on the Panthers? That ship would sink...very quickly.
