Good to see (to this point at least) the Preds completely regressing.

There had to be a different way to move money to resign Weber

That is horrendous for Nashville, which is obviously great for us. Let's hope they trade Suter to Florida for Tomas Fleishmann.

What's with these ridiculous trades right now?

I hope Howson is smarter than Poile! And anyone else think Havlat for Heatley is a little bit off?

We'll hear the full story soon, I think.

With Heatley trades, you just gotta know something is up.

More cap room, better playoff performer in Havlat and Heatley's ego are three reasons why this makes sense for San Jose.

Heatley for Havl--what is this...I don't even....

Where did that come from? This has been by far the wackiest offseason I've seen. I can't wait to see what's next.

It is a ridiculous offseason. If you'd have told me one of the Flyers guys would be gone I would've been skeptical.. but both? I would've put you on ignore and never thought anything else of it.

Crazy indeed. This trade out of nowhere. The Jackets picking up the two biggest weaknesses in their history in a week. Jagr. etc

Wrote this in the Preds thread about the Franson trade. Figured it might be appreciated here too:

The Backstory...It was late in the evening, as befit the nature of the operation. The project's ultimate result had been constructed secretly, carefully, using the highest-quality Worthington Steel and using the available brain of Aaron Portzline.

A young man in goaltender pads and an Admirals uniform was waiting in the front office, ostensibly to discuss his upcoming free agency. He checked his watch, looked left, then right, then quickly moved to the rear door and undid the locks, opening the door partway to reveal reveal two men in union blue. Plus one more figure.

"One-way contract?" asked Dekanich.

"One-way contract," Umberger reassured him. Nash just nodded.

Dekanich nodded as well, then opened the door the rest of the way. "Second floor, third door from the right."

"Good man," Nash said.

The two Blue Jackets proceeded into the Nashville front office, moving as quickly and quietly as they dared. Moving to the designated door, Umberger knocked quietly.

"Who is it?" came from within.

"It's Alex," Umberger said, in his best fake Russian accent.

There came a scrambling sound, and then the door opened to reveal David Poile, who immediately looked very puzzled to see the two Blue Jackets present. His puzzlement quickly turned to alarm when Umberger pushed his way inside and stuffed his glove into Poile's face.

"Not a sound, David. Not a sound. The Scotts would like to spend some time with you. Offer some advice and such. And don't you worry, the PoileBot 3000 will take care of your duties while you're away."

Poile's eyes went wide as he saw the last figure - a robotic David Poile substitute. It clacked, blinked its mechanical eyelids, and then spoke with horror...

"BRETT LEBDA WOULD BE A GOOD FOURTH DEFENSEMAN."

Nobody could hear Poile's scream of "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" as the Ricks dragged him away.

LMFAO

This should be a recurring theme for the upcoming season. Short, funny narratives about the Jackets and whichever other entity.

Pens fans collectively blowing up over the Jagr drama.
Seriously, they've got two of the best players in the world and they're full of spite over a KHL hitman?

Imagine if David Vyborny or Espen Knutsen came back from overseas to sign with the Red Wings.

Now multiply that feeling about 5x to account for All-Star status and the whole "my heart is in Pittsburgh" mishegaas.

Darren Pang has tweeted and it's being report on the trade board as confirmed that the Blues signed both Langenbrunner and Arnott to 1 year deals. Good move for them. They may have vaulted themselves back into the playoffs. The Central Division is going to be a real meat grinder this year. Maybe all five will be good enough for the playoffs.

By adding two over-the-hill vets? Seriously? I'd be pissed if we had signed either of those guys.

If this were 2001, then these moves might have vaulted the Blues back into the playoffs. 2011...not so much.

Langenbrunner and Arnott had 32 and 31 points last season. Nothing more than role players at this point in their careers.

NHL a KHL extended the agreement about recognition of contractuals. Tis agreement was last year too. Flatov had still one year agreement with us he could not go to Russia. He knew it and said it in interview that he will play in NA (I posted it here). So, the question is did Howson lie? Did he want to apologize this trade before fans etc.?

Understand me right I really like Howson and I am very glad he is our GM and I hope he will be long time I only want to know right whether he really said it and if yes the reason why because he said only some days before something other.

Filatov could have left for Russia regardless if this was the case. He was obviously willing to sit out over the last year of a deal with Columbus unless he was moved.

Howson could've told him to shut up, that he wasn't trading him, let him go back to Russia and the CBJ would still have his rights even if he was unlikely to ever play here again. Not only would the kid be ticked at him and the organization, but it would kill all his value in the process.

I honestly don't think Howson would have filed a grievance with the P.A. over Filatov refusing to play, especially since he'd been such a disappointment up till this point and only had one year left on the ELC.

Filatov made it clear he had no desire to play in Columbus anymore. When he went to the KHL a few seasons ago, he was loaned to them with organizations blessing.

I think he would have sat out the season in Russia had Columbus not traded him.
