vancouver lets salo(3) + ehrhoff(5), Saves around 8m in cap.

Then uses the cap to get a legit star to play with kesler.

it sounds far fetched, but let's look at all the destinations people think richards is going to.

Toronto - Average at best team, Have some young talent, but no where close to compete for the cup.

LA Kings - Solid team from top to bottom, imo his best option.

Rangers - Solid team, but with the drury news, Don't see how they make cap room for him.

And now for,

Vancouver - They were one game away from the cup, clearly one of 3 teams who are favorites to take the cup next year. Need a high end player to play with kesler, Richards chance of winning the cup goes up drastically.

What do you all think?, Pipe dream?

you are so off you're in another galaxy buddy

Seriously? Done, done and done. I like Ballard but AV refuses to use him. So if we can dump his salary, I am all for it.

You just know he'd pop a hat trick or something against us just because...

As a Dallas fan, I would do that. Ballard for Richards' rights. Vancouver clears cap space and Dallas reaches the cap floor. GMJN had lots of interest in Ballard last summer. I wonder if that's changed?

A few weeks ago I made a thread on the Canucks board, inquiring about this:

gets

Mark Eaton, 2nd + 4th

gets

Keith Ballard

What could be added going to Vancouver to get Cory Schneider in the deal?

Only if Richard has a deal in place to stay in Vancouver.

Richards and Kesler on the same line, I'm thinking they'd get more ice time than the Sedins. Richards and Kesler would be deadly together and both are solid centers and defensive players. Remember Kesler played wing with Sundin and didn't look out of place, that made him a better player. It's a pipe dream tho... hard to believe Canucks would have Sedins, Kesler and Richards making up their top 6... very very hard to believe.

A top-6 of:
Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Raymond - Richards - Kesler

would be amazing. But at what point can you sacrifice so much D? I do think that Ehrhoff is gone and Bieksa will be retained.

I think a more likely target for the Canucks would be Connolly. He is a risk I'd be willing to take on a 1-2 year contract.

Call me crazy but I think the chemistry of Vancouver would be thrown off kilter with the addition of Richards. Henrik is the unquestioned #1 center. Kesler is probably the best #2 center in the league at the moment. Richards does not play the wing particularly effectively and Kesler's defense is best utilized at center. Even if you were to get those two guys to work with each other on one line (which is possible, offensively) Vancouver loses some of their defensive presence with Richards playing alongside Kesler. Richards is passable defensively because of the offense he brings whereas Kesler gives you kick ass defense while scoring at a pretty high clip. I just don't see the fit. If you play Richards with Kesler you effectively negate that line from being a line that checks the opposition's better players, as Kesler has done so well over his career.

Sure he fits in we just trade the Sedins to make the room and bring in a winger from the Sedin trade to play with Richards

I seriously doubt the Stamkos contract will be outrageous. But if it is, obviously there are other options.

I had proposed Ehrhoff's rights for Richards' in the Canucks forum.

Canucks fans who think Ehrhoff is going to sign in Vancouver for $4.5M are crazy, the guy basically said he's a 50 point d-man and knows they are worth a lot in his after season presser.

But we don't need Ehrhoff, as we have Goligoski who is basically Ehrhoff's slightly smaller clone.

I'd just take Ballard since we need a D-man like him more than we need Ehrhoff...

Not worth it for the Canucks IMO. Like other posters said, Richards, being a superstar-caliber player, will want ice time. Vancouver has two superstar players and back-to-back Art Ross winners in the Sedins and a star 2nd line center in Kesler. Richards wouldn't be getting nearly as much ice time as he could on teams like Buffalo, Toronto, or the Rangers. On those teams he'd be arguably the best player. On the Canucks he'd be another weapon to add to the already powerful arsenal.

IMO the Canucks have more important things to address than getting Brad Richards to play as a top 6 winger. One of the Canucks current strengths is their depth, especially on defense. Subtracting two of Bieksa/Salo/Ehrhoff would ruin that. I don't believe Gillis will shake it up and I believe he won't be adding too much this offseason. Whoever he does add, I'm pretty sure they're not Richards.

IF Ballard can return to form a defense of:

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - Salo/Ballard
Rome - Ballard/Salo

@ Rivet52...Kesler is great on the RW and getting Richards to be his centre would allow Kesler to play more of a powerforward game...no ice-time issues at all.

I disagree. Goligoski does not make Ehrhoff unnecessary on the Stars. Between Ballard and Ehrhoff the latter is just a significantly better player. If we need a physical guy (which we do) then better go after a cheaper guy like O'Brien. Ballard is just not that great (not that he's terrible).
