Bob McKenzie: Salary cap ceiling to be $64 M, floor to be $48 M
Bigger increase then they originally thought. $64 M, wowzers.....

I'm told the upper limit of the 2011-12 NHL salary cap will be $64 million. The lower limit, or floor, will be $48 million.

Wow and I thought it was a big jump when some were reporting it would like go up to 62ish million.
I guess forget any teams like Philly having any problems that a small trade or demotion won't fix. Philly just gained 5 million in cap space, which is probably just a tad under what Bryz will want.
The teams that have a budget are probably going to be feeling the pinch of having to spend above the new cap floor.

Florida has to spend 29.7 M this summer to reach the floor.

It's long exceeded that dude, the lockout ceiling was 39 mil not 49 mil. I'm not at all surprised by this, every year it's bigger than expected. I believe the numbers they come up with in November at the BOG meetings are cautious and try to be worst case scenario type numbers. I'm honestly not sure if there has ever been a year where the cap wasn't more than what was originally expected.
So we need to spend ~$11M just to get to the cap floor.
RFAs to sign are Cogliano, Smid, Peckham, Jacques (unlikely IMO), EL for 1st overall, Chorney. Still room to play with beyond all those - unless we bring Souray back

Makes a Luongo trade back there a real possibility IF Tallon is on board...but how does anyone have any idea if he would be down with that. Of course Luongo would have to waive as well but if I'm him, still has a home there, wife likes it there, kid was born there, gets away from all the pressure of Vancouver, I would think he would be game but who knows.
Here is something to think about: Atlanta moves to Winnipeg, I would guess that's gonna be a 35 mil swing next season, new TV deal now in place, TV numbers were incredible (as far as meeting expectations) in both Canada and the US this season and possibly both an NFL and NBA lockout leaving the NHL and MLB as the only games in town next October. How much does the cap go up NEXT season??? I'm going to guess....wait for it...10 mil increase for the cap next season.
Absolutly nothing to apologize about my man, just thought I would point it out. Hard to believe. The floor is way too high IMO.
Yeah it is way too high, I agree. In a few years, we are going to see a few more teams move. Teams like Nashville and Florida will not be able to spend to the floor on a budget basis.
So the Oilers will have to spend 11 million with only Smid, Cogs and Theo left to sign? We may have to bring a guy like Smitty back just to reach the floor
The floor is getting to be ridiculous. I don't know what the formula is to figure out the cap, but I can see about 5 teams in some serious trouble now.

I won't be surprised to see Jim Balsillie being one of the people to buy one of these teams and move them to Hamilton.

Brooks Laich is licking his chops right now ahah.
Watch him end up with like 8 mil a year from Florida or something.

I like that idea. Although if we did that I don't see the need for Cogliano back.
Hall - Gagner - Eberle
Smyth - Horcoff - Hemsky
Paajarvi - Nugent-Hopkins - Omark
Hartikainen - Brule - Jones
Yup, Tambellini is going to have to spend some money this summer whether he likes it or not.
He'll have to go out and get players just to fill holes...and when those terrible players play terrible for us, we can forget why Tambellini had to sign them and criticize him for it(see Foster and Fraser).
