As a rookie in University he wouldn't necessarily been given the best minutes. Maybe he was given the opportunity, but it isn't unusual for rookies in college to get less than stellar playing time.

Thanks to Ulf for this

Crazy how the rankings vary per mock draft. The latest McKeens has Puempel at 29, yet he averages out at 19. Friday is going to be insane no matter what. There are no guarantees...

I will have to differ it cause i have been waiting for draft day for sometime any good excuses by my fellow hfer's would be appreciated or do i have to get a fake doctors note again. You're in luck! It's neither Tuesday OR Thursday! It's Friday at 7PM!

Anyone know if TSN is showing it live online? They released an article when it became official that they were broadcasting, it mentioned tsn.ca but was pretty vague and it sounded like they were just going to do a live draft tracker.

McKeens top 100 is out, but only the top 30 is free.

I guess we gotta get something for our monthly payments.

If I get time I'll update my cross reference list, and show final results but not the individual inputs.

Strome could probably step in right away. He could be this year's Skinner.

I'm not so keen on Biggs. His offensive upside is questionable, have a feeling best case scenario is a bigger Mike Brown. Nothing wrong with that, but we might be able to get those types of players later on in the draft.

Some players I like the sounds of, based on lots of reading and research on the internet.

Vladmir Namestnikov C, 6-0 170
Scouting reports sounds very similar to Kadri. Maybe not as physical as Naz, but could be better defensively. Pretty much only weakness is strength and consistency. Both things that can and should improve. I really believe this guys is flying under the radar. Could be available with our 2nd rounder, if he drops out of the first. Seems to be one guy in the latter part of the first, early second, who has the traits to be a top six forward if he develops.

Ryan Sproul D, 6-4 180
Was thinking he would be a good mid round pick, but seems to be gaining a lot of attention and may have a shot as a late first. Could also be available with our 2nd. Big shot from the point and lots of upside.

Michael McKee D, 6-5 230
Huge defenceman playing U.S. high school, off to NCAA next year. Supposedly moves pretty well for a big guy and started to play more physical as season wore on. Rated around 4 or 5th round...could go slightly higher.

Kale Kessy LW, 6-3 185
Very tough winger, who will fight anyone. Has some upside to be more than just just a scrapper, but likely worst case is a 4th line tough guy. Needs to fill out a bit that should come. Lots of folk wanting Biggs in the first, I think this guy would be a better option. Could go in the 2nd round, more likely a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Thomas Spelling RW, 6-3 175
Read story the Leafs have scouted him. Big winger who is really raw and had a good year in Europe. Just seems like the type of player we pick recently, sort of sounds similar to Sondre Olden. Ranked later rounds 5-7th.

Johan Sundstrom C, 6-3 195
Mixed reviews on this player. Struggled at men's level, but scored a lot of points when in the junior league. Big, competes and has good hands. Skating seems to be an issue, but if he improves could be a bigger Holmstrom type of player. Ranked anywhere between 4-6 rounds.

Max McCormick LW, 6-0 175
U.S high school player I like what Ive read about him. Off to NCAA this fall. Sounds like a tough player who can also play. Could be a potential energy/pest type of prospect down the road in the Burrow/Lappiere mold...if he develops. Could be available with one of our 6th rounders (we have three).

Mattias Backman D, 6-2 170
Pretty raw defenceman with some offensive skills and size. Obviously, needs to fill out but we seem to do well drafting Euro defenceman in the later rounds. Probably available from rounds 4-6.

Westerhom twins (Patrik and Pontus) both are 5-11 185, one center, the other a winger. Apparantly the centre, Patrik, is the better of the two, but with multiple 6th and 7th rounders, might be worth a shot if they are available. Both passed over in last year's draft, but it sounds like Patrik really picked up his play this year. Be interesting to have a couple of twins in the system, thats for sure.

at this point if the projections give any indication is it really worth trading up?

I'd be more than happy with 2 of

3.8 25 Jurco, Tomas Right Wing
24.0 26 Namestnikov, Vladislav Center
25.0 27 Morrow, Joseph Defenseman
25.2 28 Saad, Brandon Left Wing
25.3 29 Biggs, Tyler Right Wing
26.3 30 Miller, Jonathan

then 1 of

36.0 37 Ritchie, Brett Right Wing
36.5 38 Musil, David Defenseman
39.3 39 Nieto, Matthew Left Wing
41.7 40 Percy, Stuart Defenseman
42.3 41 Catenacci, Daniel Center
43.0 42 Ambroz, Seth Right Wing

ie.

Saad, Miller, and Percy > McNeil and Biggs

He'd be a steal with our 2nd, but I don't see it. I'd love that but I see him going around 30-36

Honestly, I would be happy with any one of the defenders in the first round. Each one of them seems like they have a lot of upside. It's too bad we dont have 10 first round picks.

Lots of recent mock drafts have him going bottom of first, top of 2nd round lately. I agree with you, but dropping from 30-36 to 39 isnt exactly a huge fall in this draft where there is such a wide view of opinions.

Watching the recent press conference of the 2 new assistant coach hiring and the subsequent interview with Crohen, he mentioned a player that really stood out to him was Adam Reid. He's a northeastern commit, and Crohen said he's expected to go in the 3rd round. At 6'4/ 205 and standout skill to the assistant coach now, would he be someone leafs might show some interest in?

There was some speculation that Cronin’s arrival could have something to do with the Leafs moving up in this weekend’s draft to take Northeastern defenceman Jamie Oleksiak, currently ranked 17th by The Hockey News
http://www.torontosun.com/2011/06/20...hes-in-shuffle

Just food for thought..

Oleksiak would be a nice addition to our prospect pool. But I think he will go top 13-15 on Friday.

Looks pretty solid, not that much puck movement though.

There's your puck movement. The concern is a lack of puck movement on our top line but Phaneuf isn't a bad passer.

With one of the 151, 159, 172, 189, or 202 we should draft Frankie Corrado from the Sudbury Wolves. He has some untapped offensive potential IMO, and even this season his stats are similar to those of Jesse Blacker in his draft year.

Frankie Corrado, D
6'00" 188 lbs

Regular Season:67GP 4G 26A 30Pts
Playoffs: 8GP 1G 4A 5Pts

And hopefully he can do something like this on a regular basis next season:
