What is up with the penalties teams are given out, they affect the cap as well don't they? Is there any news about the Penguins receiving any such penalties? I think they did last year.

We could afford a 5 mil contract easy if tk is not resigned. With news of this cap ceiling, I'll be very interested to see how active shero is.
Just curious, how much cap space did the Penguins have to start the season this past year?

Hmmm that $3.5m could one of the two JJ's out there this year... Would you rather have Jokinen for like 3 years at that price or Jagr for one year?

We had penalties against our cap last season, but I thought we didn't have any that would hit us this year, though I could be wrong.
Umm, we were pretty close to that cap from day one as far as I remember because we had extra guys salary hitting with Staal and Asham injured out of camp.
well 3 million was just a random number i threw out, but the point is that we're gonna be further under the cap than a lot of you would like, based on these lineup suggestions. Personally, I think we're bringing back TK, Jeffrey, and 2 other FA's (1 FA if we bring in Jagr), and then try to bring in Brad Winchester.

Depends, do you want a natural right winger there or add another left winger and hope he can convert to the right wing and still be as effective and then after the 1yr of Jagr, go after a better UFA next year and hope Jagr stays at a cheaper cap hit for another year.
I think 3.5m is a bit much for Jagr, 3m would be fine to get 1.1m and some change for cap space for call-ups and what not.

Hmm, can't Jokinen play all 3 forward positions equally well (or close to it)? Agree on $3m being ideal for Jagr and then having the cap space next year to get a guy like Umberger.

As far as I can tell, he's only played C/LW, he might have been tried as a right winger but it probably wasn't for long since I can't find any source here that has him listed as a right winger on a consistent enough basis to think he could play that side.
Perused the Canes board's GDT to see their line-up the last 10 games...
Damn, it looks like he's played more center than wing with the Hurricanes, he's been a winger when he's playing the pp/pk only it seems outside of a few stretches where he is a winger and a right winger at that. TSN lists him as a C/W, Carolina's site lists him as a LW. But as you can see above, in the projected line-ups, he has played some right wing.

Woah, nice investigating my friend! Well he definitely fits the versatility test that Shero and Bylsma have for players haha. And of course that means he can take faceoffs when the center gets kicked out of the circle.
How is he as a PKer? Never thought of him helping out in that area to be honest.

Well, I guess I gotta go all stat geek then.
Jussi Jokinen. Faceoffs (W/L & Total): 169/151 (320 total) for 52.8% (19/23 on the PK faceoffs, 42/34 for powerplay) Penalty Killing Time: 0.50/game (59:05 SHTOI) Powerplay Points: 18 powerplay points, 3rd best on that team (52pt season)
So I guess if anything, he is capable of playing on the pk and taking the draw.

Well done again!
Hmm, 52.8% on draws is pretty good and he was lights on when taking them on the PK! I wonder how he's been used on the PP in the past. Our left side is crowded as it is so I'm not sure how many points he'll be able to put up there on this team.

I could ask the Canes fans, maybe they will be nice enough to answer that without the resentment of losing him this summer.

I'm against MAlkin being a winger and Malkin will only be wing when a faceoff happens, then him and Jokinen switch spots.

Not a line I would want to see regularly, but that could be something you could see when Malkin needs a break from the faceoffs, versatile players like someone mentioned, is Bylsma & Shero's favorite type of player.

Canes fans are usually pretty cool when I've talked to them so I'm thinking they'll help us out
I said that about versatile players today, but I can't remember which thread that was haha
Since the cap is going up 4M i'd say Pens really need to trade Niskanen. Sign Laich at 3.7M, Rupp at what he's making and the rest for the deadline.
Someone said who would you rather have...Jokinen at 3 years, or Jagr at 1 year. I'll take Jagr at 1 year because next off season should be a good picking at the UFA, and if the cap went up say 3M next season we could have like 5M to play with. But i would also settle for Laich this season for say 5 years. 5 years 18.5M which is 3.7M a year cap hit.
Good work looking up the Jokinen stats. The more I see stuff like that the more I want him here. Versatile, and all around good player. Without using capgeek I think it's very possible we can ice these lines come October.
Well then we will be sickly strong on the LW. I always believed he could play any position.
Neal-Crosby-TK
Laich-Malkin-Johnson
Kunitz-Staal-Tangradi (yes i know he's a LW too but he can learn to play both wings)
Cooke-Vitale-Adams
Letestu
Are you sure you follow the team? lol, you know Tangradi can and has played the right side for the Penguins right, even in WBS. Him being able to play the left side and right side has been commented by plenty of people here and it has been seen at times. The only thing that bothers me is people putting Neal or Kunitz on the right side or automatically assuming someone can play both wings when they can't, you know what I mean?
With that said, Kennedy AND Johnson in the top 6, I don't know about that, haha.
I don't know why you would want to be strong on LW and horrible on RW when you can be awesome on both.
Because i can deal with a weak RW side for a year (Kunitz UFA, Umberger his replacement). Staal also has to start being looked at to play offense too which is why i put Kunitz there, and Cooke on the 4th line. Kunitz would help Staal more then Cooke would, and they have great chemistry. No brainer for me. As for Johnson on the top 6, he's been there before IIRC. TK on the top line is fine aswell, it's not like we have many other options. TK also had a 20 goal season in his breakout year. Nothing wrong with my lines, anyway. If you want an awesome LW and RW combo then you want Staal playing center beside Malkin playing RW. Not me. I rather be strong down the middle, and left side, and then work on right side after.
