Wow, really helps LA's open some cap space up. His salary isn't that significant any more.

Linus Omark & Sheldon Souray, welcome to LA, err Manchester.

Brule + Calgary's 3rd for Smyth.

Or Hemsky + Gagner for Smyth + Schenn if LA signs Richards

No. Manchester doesn't need any defenseman...

No on the 2nd. Wouldn't hate the 1st simply because it clears salary and Brule only has one more year left. But think it could be a 2nd not a 3rd? Or is that too much for Smyth?

We are going to lose both Handzus and Smyth... who the he ll is going to be screening opposing goalies? Smyth was incredible at that.

All seriousness though, just give us our Penner 1st rounder back and we'll call it a day.

Smyth is simply too old, slow, and not worth the money anymore. He scored 21 goals but I'd really rather free up the cap space to trade for another scorer....someone who can catch a pass. I know a lot of Kings fans won't agree with me and I'd like to get a somewhat decent return for him but at this point I'm just sick of seeing him turn the puck over and fumble every pass.

Were not giving the 31st pick for Ryan Smyth. I doubt we'd even give a third and Brule.

Not going to happen, sorry. I'd eat my hat if we traded even #31 for Smyth.

Has anybody stopped to ask if this makes a lick of sense?

Why, precisely, would Smyth want to leave LA and go to Edmonton?

For a chance to win? For better weather? For a top-six role? Anything making one iota of sense about this? C'mon people... have at least a tiny sense of credulity...

Cogs and a 4th? Clears up cap space and maybe Cogs can bounce back in L.A? I dont honestly know what it would take but I just want Smyth back. It would be pretty sweet to see Smyth-Horcoff-Hemsky reunited.

Maybe you didn't know, but Smyth has a pretty good history with Edmonton and was a leader/found statistical success there too... also went on their 2005 playoff run, which would most likely contribute to an overall positive experience in his time there.

Or you know maybe, just maybe he wants to go back to the place where his career started? He was the heart and soul of the Oilers and loved the city, the team and the fans. How long have you been following hockey far? Did you know that Smyth started his career in Edmonton?

I'd love to have him back. Great veteran presence for the young guys. And we have the cap space. It's a salary dump for LA, so I don't expect it to cost Edmonton much.

I don't think you're getting anything close to a 1st rounder back, tbh. A 2nd + prospect or depth roster player is possible, but that'd be the absolute most you'd get tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a 3rd or even a 4th. that 19th overall is way too useful to be given away for Smyth.

I really think we should offer Plante and O'Marra. Just to correct the universe.

I think he's getting ready to retire and that makes a ton of sense. His parents live in Banff and his brothers run some company up in Alberta. It's his home. SEND RYAN HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Penners big enough to block any goalies sight. Brown has done it from time to time too. I ain't worried. Just get Smyth outta town.

How about ending his career with the franchise he was drafted by and played with for a decade.

Yeah personally I believe he is Punking Bob McKenzie as well.

Here's all the proof you need that Ryan Smyth loved Edmonton:

Not saying I would expect it, but with the information we have I don't think its much of a leap of faith to believe that he misses the city and the team.

I assumed no to the 2nd. And the 31st is too valuable a pick for Smyth at this point in his career with that contract. That pick gets first selection of the fallen projected 1st round guys after a full night of discussion with the scouts. Perhaps our 3rd instead of Calgary's might work though.

If Bob McKenzie reports it, it's fact. Smyth played most of his career here, his wife is from here, and he may think this team will be going places in the next few seasons and wants to get his foot in the door now. Plenty of reasons why he may want to return here.
