I'd be all over this. Brule + a 3rd. Get it done Tambo.

Smyth - Horcoff - Hemsky would be a great line to toss out against the best the other team has, leaving easier minutes for the kids in the top 9.

I know my lines aren't unique but I love the look of them, so I'll type them out anyways.

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Paajarvi - Gagner - Omark
Smyth - Horcoff - Hemsky
Jones - Cogliano - Hartikainen

23 goals last season and he was tied for the team lead in points in the playoffs. Clearly done.

Depending if this is sarcastic or not, this might be my favorite first-post.

Hall - Horcoff - Eberle
Smyth - Gagner - Hemsky

That's not a bad top 6 if you ask me. ANd if RNH is ready to go, then even better.
That's a pretty good transitional top-6. Good mix of veterans and young players (half and half) with a variety of skills and solid leadership (smyth and horcoff).

Your overreacting.

Yes he's 35, but his big contract has one year left, and it just so happens we need more vets.

We need to spend $11 million to get to the damn cap floor.

I don't see any downside here, we're not going to be challenging for the playoffs right now.

Would we really be bringing Smyth in for his offense though? I think it would be more about the intangibles and leadership.

For only 1 season at that pricetag, yes. Anything longer would've been debatable.

He' a 40-50 point player that adds heart, grit and leadership.

he's exactly what this team needs in the short-term to help guys like Hall, Eberle, MPS etc. learn what a real leader is like, and help mold a guy like, say, Hartikainen into a next-generation Smyth-type player.

5 points in 6 playoff games.

I'm also not expecting much out of a 35 year old Smyth. I'm expecting him to come here and teach the younger kids to give a 100% every night.

We want to create a young new team. There is no place for old former Oilers to have a nice career ending.
Give the ice time the youngsters.

exactly - it's not like Smyth had a great shot or blazing speed, but his competitiveness and desire to win would be great to show the kids.

What could they really want? In all honesty?

He's only going to accept a trade to one team, us, and he politely said he pretty much wanted out.

They can have Souray or Brule and maybe like a 4th or 3rd, but apart from that, I don't think there is anything else we'd be down to trade.

Still haven't seen a realistic take on what the Oilers would send back. Foster and Souray don't make any sense from the Kings POV and the Oilers aren't going to give up stud picks or prospects, so what else do they have to offer? Brule? JFJ? Fraser? Weak.

That said, I'd love to see it happen.

This then sign him for 1 or 2 more years at around 2 mil per

So you don't think Smyth has a lot of offense left in him but you're worried about him taking ice time away from the kids? If he's as bad as you think he is, I think the kids are safe.
