I can't see how Calgary could go after Smyth, even if they wanted him. It makes no sense, and their cap situation shouldn't permit it.
And trading Regehr for cap space and then spending it on a 35 year old is just stupid.

would be hard for the Flames to sign 4 more players for $1m space they have left if they do trade for smyth, they currently have $7m of space, but LA can't take back salary realisticly.

Agreed. The last thing Calgary needs is an expensive 35 year old.

What is Flames management smoking?
Why do they keep playing the same losing hand.. over and over..?
You look at a team like the Flyers... and they make the Flames management look like dinosaurs. They're going to ride Iggy and Kipper until the very end.

That would be a typical, vindictive Sutter-like move for the Flames to make a move for Smyth.
Seeing as Smyth as a NMC I would hope that he would turn a move to the Flames down.

This makes sense because Calgary
really needs to get older.

Flames may be just driving up the price.
Remember folks, the Oilers have been used a fair few times in the past to get bigger deals, weather it's FA, trades etc etc.

Here's the two tweets from Spector again.
Richards to LA will expedite Smyth to EDM. Kings can't take back significant salary from Oil. Told deal WILL happen.

Remember, Smyth has no movement clause. Hard to see him choosing Calgary, which doesn't exactly need another 35 YO player.

They asked, but it doesn't look like he's jumping all over that. Sounds like he might refuse to waive.

It would hurt me. I actually like the Kings, so I have no problem seeing Smyth in a Kings jersey or cheering for them. I have my hopes up of a Smyth return now. Seeing him in a Flames jersey would make me furious, even if it's just for a year. It would be a long year..

I hope that Spector is right. I'll be incredibly hurt if Smyth waives his no-trade to go to Calgary.

They're not good enough to win anything, not bad enough to rebuild. P.O.-ing EDM is the closest thing to being entertained if you're a Calgary fan.

Sounds like Regehr won't waive his no-trade anyway so the Flames have no room.

Didn't Smyth's no-trade clause disappear when he was traded to Los Angeles?

Fan dam tastic. As much as it would be fun to see the terrible deal they make to get an aging Smyth, it's far sweeter to see them dying under the weight of NMCs, especially because they've now publicly stated they would like to be rid of Regehr now.

What loyalty should anyone expect from Smyth if Edmonton says they aren't interested?
Especially if the move is in part motivated by his family.
That said, Calgary wouldn't be that stupid. Smyth is a good fit for Edmonton's make up but the last thing a team like Calgary needs.

Where is this coming from? Everything I'm hearing is that he likely will.

Man, if I see Smyth in a Flames jersey, I might have to start watching the Oilers vs Flames game in the shower. Although, that may not be enough

When the Oil traded penner i fully made LA my second favourite team because of all the ex-oilers so i dont mind him there too, but i would really love to see him on the oilers
