The probability of Malone waiving to go to Calgary is low. Like I said, it was just a thought and a quick glance at capgeek.
Most likely because of cap reasons (think they're in pretty tight against it). And as I mentioned, they Flames would still have to go out and sign a starting goalie - negating all of the cap savings from dealing Kipper for Malone.

Wow Canucks fans are as delusional about what they could get back from TB for Schneider and some crap as they were about winning the cup no problems.

Too soon?

I like Malone then I looked at his contract and he will be extremely tough, if not impossible to trade.

Your proposed deal was bad, we wouldn't need luck to get more than Spacek for Malone.

Malones a tough guy to trade because he really does earn his money and brings a lot to the table yet most people look at the length of the contract which is a big problem. But the lightning really don't have anyone else that is a big body and can contribute offensively so i really wouldn't want to trade him. I think the money is perfect for him, the length is just a problem. Say what you want though, malone is still a pretty good top 6 forward.

It seems like Malone has been shopped ever since he landed on the beach.

So we could have something of no real value or Spacek? Seems like a wash.

Malone would be nice with Canucks, but I don't think any proposal can work out for both sides unless Canucks dump a salary too.

except the injury factor, I don't understand what is so bad about his contract...

4,5M$ /4 year for a 25G-25A physical player isn't so bad....he was in pace for 57 points this year.He is overpaid by +/- 500k imo but that's the price montreal needs to add to sign UFA anyway.

comparable player are :

Hartnell 4,2M$
Penner 4,25M$
Lucic 4M$
Clowe 3,65M$

That would free up extra cash for them to throw at Richards.

If they're not looking to free up space, gotta think they'll try and find a serviceable goaltender.
Maybe Yzerman is just making sure he doesn't get into the same situation as Chicago, he has to re-sign Stamkos and then he will either need to resign both of his goaltenders or go after one of the UFA ones (Vokoun).

Malone is a proven playoff veteran, people act like his cap hit is a problem, but it isn't.

The length of his contract combined with him getting hurt so much is what scares people. The cap hit is fair for now.

Agreed. The Leafs have the cap room and they have the need for some physicality in their lineup.

If you're saying Weber + 17th for Malone + falling back in the 1st I could see it happening. The habs should have room, as it doesn,t look like the habs will be adding much come free agency.

I'd be fine with Weber + 17 for Malone and 27.

I said a deal involving Burns and Malone would be nice. Were you silly enough to believe a Malone for Burns straight up deal? I realize it would take more from the Lightning's side.

Don't think it works for 2 reasons: a) Kennedy is an unsigned RFA b) Pens don't need another LW. They'd need to move one of Kunitz or Cooke (probably Kunitz, just to make the money work).

this would be a pretty good deal, and I think Ambroz would be available at #27 adding a young power forward for the system as Timmins loves picking players from the USHL.

It opens up cap for TBL and gives MTL another a player that can play a power game and is responsible defensively.

I would take this deal as well. Decent PMD and a higher pick for that contract length, but I would have to think that Ashton would have to be ready for Stevie Y to consider this now. Any Habs fans have a take on Weber's upside?
